HP has officially announced its new ultra-compact, powerful HP Veer, which the IT giant claims as the smallest HP webOS handset to date – about the size of a standard credit card, combining 2.57″ touchscreen, 5MP camera, 800 MHz processor, full QWERTY keyboard, 8GB on-board memory, Wi-Fi b/g/n with WPA, WPA2, WEP, 802.1X authentication, A-GPS, Adobe Flash Player 10.1 beta support, robust messaging support and more powerful, advanced smartphone features into a single tiny device – all without compromising the cool smartphone experience.

Key features and specifications of HP Veer smartphone:

  • 800 MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7230 processor
  • 5 megapixel camera with 720p HD movie capture and geo-tagging capability
  • Slide-out full QWERTY keyboard
  • Based on webOS 2.2 platform
  • Vivid, vibrant 2.57-inch multi-touch display with 320 x 400 pixels resolution
  • Support HP Touchstone (optional) docking station
  • Pre-loaded with HP Synergy

“While much of the industry is trending toward larger and larger devices, we believe there’s also a whole lot of room for thinking small,” commented Jon Rubinstein, senior vice president and general manager for Palm Global Business Unit at HP. “Veer bridges the gap for a new generation of smartphone users, proving they really can have it all without sacrificing the size they want.”

The new tiny, lightweight HP Veer smartphone which measures 4.5 x 84 x 15.1 mm and weighs just 3.6 ounces is expected to be available by the early spring 2011 but no words on its price yet.
