When composing a new or edit existing post or page in WordPress editor using IE8 (Internet Explorer 8), the edit post or edit page box may jumps or moves to the top or the beginning of the text frequently. The symptom is especially obvious when WordPress users are writing or editing a long article.

The behavior of jumping to the beginning or the top of the post or page in IE 8 can happen as frequent as every 10 to 15 seconds, making writing or editing a long post in WordPress difficult, if not annoying, as the text view will jump up, causing author to lose the position easily. Although the cursor may still stay at the original location, however, author may accidentally click after the jump.

Some users reported that the issue only happens when they move the mouse pointers out of the edit box, but the problem can also happen randomly with or without any mouse movement, and at worst case, every stroke of the cursor sends the window jumping back to the top of the text and then back to current selected position, annoyingly distort the view.

The issue above is related to compatibility between WordPress editor and IE8. The problem can happen in many versions of WordPress, including WordPress 2.8, 2.8.1, 2.8.2, 2.9, 2.9.1 and 2.9.2.

The workaround to fix the WordPress editor view jumping around up and down issue is by forcing the blog to display in IE8 Compatibility View, which been offered in IE8 for viewing websites designed for older browsers so that the websites look better and corrects problems such as out-of-place menus, images or text.

To place and assign a website as Compatibility View in IE8, just load the web page with WordPress editor opens (or just the homepage of the weblog), and click on Compatibility View button at the end of the address bar of IE8.

Compatibility View in IE8

After using Compatibility View on the WordPress blog, creating, composing, editing or writing in the editor will no longer jumps or moves to the top.
