New iPod Nano 6G With Multi-Touch Display (Smaller and Lighter)
Apple has officially announced the upcoming availability of its new redesigned iPod nano, which the company claims to sport just half the size (46% smaller) and weight (42% lighter) of its predecessor, featuring a multi-touch display, integrated FM radio with live pause, built-in clip, pedometer, Shake to Shuffle, and extreme long battery life that supports up to 24 hours of audio playback.

“This is the biggest reinvention of the iPod nano since its debut in 2005, and we think users are going to love it,” commented Steve Jobs, CEO for Apple. “Replacing the click wheel with our Multi-Touch interface has enabled us to shrink the iPod nano into an amazingly small design that is instantly wearable with its built-in clip.”
The latest stylish, ultra-compact (6G) iPod nano that offered in silver, graphite, blue, green, orange or pink color will be available in 2 variants of memory storage – 8GB and 16GB, expected to hit the market next week for a suggested retail price of $149 and $179, respectively.

how can i turn off my new ipod nano 6th generation…not go to sleep…turn it OFF.
heather your a gem!!!! thanks so much
And to Soph; you have to keep holding it. Even when the apple logo comes on, keep holding. A new screen will pop up. When it does, don't worry about anything else, just press the Sleep/Wake button.
Thaaank You, Heather! No more charging the goddamn iPod every 2 days
If you you pause the song (middle button – arrows) press the sleep button on the side for a second. It will turn off. I've been trying this now for a few days and it seems to work.
When I hold the down volume button and the sleep button together it goes black and I get the apple logo for a couple of seconds, but then it keeps returning to the main screen again – so I still can't turn it off. Any further tips please? It's SO frustrating
OMGGG!!! Heather was right! Finally I can leave my ipod without the music being on pause and consuming all the battery life!
My new gen.6 turns itself off after about 1 minute. I havent found a way to stop this. ideas??
it wont turn off when i press the power button & the volume down button, it just keeps coming back on
Heather was correct. Thanks for all the help.
A lot of other websites said to just leave it on for 36 hours. HAHAHAHA! So glad you helped. Thanks again.
Press and hold both volume control buttons and the sleep button together for several seconds until screen goes black then shows apple logo (continue holding down buttons entire time) After apple logo loads release buttons and a list of options will appear in yellow text. The first option will be standby, simply press sleep button and your Nano will not respond to touch or shake. To wake back up repress the sleep button!
you can turn it off! just hold down the lock button and the volume down button and wait 4 about 5 seconds.
I am so frustrated with this thing not shutting off. Did anyone get any help from the company???
This is soo stupid I got this as a Christmas present and I can't get the stupid thing to turn off! Who the hell thought it was a good idea to make an iPod that can't turn off? Grrrrrrrrr:(
thanks don, his idea works, its the best you can get to "off" i think its silly too, but still a great gift!
Ive just had to buy one of these coz my old nano died today of all days after christmas day, i hate that you cant turn it off what a crock…….ive been through the online manual and nothing. wish I hadnt wasted £129 but dont want to be without ipod how rubbish this is.
hold down the power button and the volume down button at the same time and it will shut down after a couple of seconds.
its so stupid i dont know how the heck i turn this piece of poop off…ughh
how do u turn this off
can somebody PLEASE tell me how to turn the dang thing off!?! i have tried everything, i am going to go back today and return it!
Who the h@LL invented an electronic that doesn't shut off… I don't even use it that often but by the time I decide to the battery is practically dead. This was the first IPOD I bought and I am not pleased at all, Really wish I would have went with something else.
can't turn it off…it's great, but it sucks cause you can't turn it off. UGH APPLE!!
Pausing the music and using the sleep button will put the iPod Nano in standby mode for 36 hours, and will quickly return to normal if you then click the sleep/wake button again. If you however don’t use it for 36 hours while your iPod Nano is in standby mode, it will shut down automatically. i too was having problems with this.
I was getting very frustrated with my new nano when I could not shut it off but I figured it out. Hold the "sleep/wake" button down while holding down the volume down button. The screen will go off and come back on with jsy the menu and no music. Then just tap on the "slleep/wake" button again. I think it's the closest thing to off you can get.
Hi, i have the same problem with my new ipod nano, i love the way it looks, the size, everything BUT the fact that i can't turn it Off :S :S :S :S :S
somebody know how to do it?
the sleep mode sucks!! consumes all the battery
The 6g nano turn themselves off after 36 hours of sleep mode… better off with a shuffle or touch, at least your battery won't die when you're not using it.
How do shut this thing off? I got one to replace my classic 30Gig Ipod as the battery is kaput. At 65 to replace the battery this was a better alternative but Having it one day and it's dead the next is dumb because I can't shut it off.
how does it turn off? I dont know if I like it as much as the old nanos.
I like my new nano but can't figure out how to turn it off. I can make it "sleep" but it's still on. ?
Just grabbed my iPod nano 6g for just 144$. its awesome!!!!
mini touch screen, so slick, wearable, has a great clip, radio that works and many other features , buy it ! it is so cool !
WOuld be great, if you didn't have to install iTunes just to transfer music….
