In Windows operating system, there are many functions or items the available in Control Panel for user to personalize, customize, tweak or configure the system. Each Control Panel item is given a canonical name and a GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) or extension CLSID (Windows Class Identifier). As shown in the trick to show all tasks folder of Control Panel (God Mode), Windows shell supports file system folders to be made into a namespace junction or Control Panel item by associating the folder with the GUID.

The canonical names and corresponding GUIDs are introduced since Windows Vista, and continue to exist and define for most, if not all Control Panel items in Windows 7. However, it doesn’t bring any new functionality or feature, and instead simply replicating Control Panel settings. The canonical names do not change for different languages, and they are always in English, even if the system’s language is non-English. However, not all Control Panel items are available on all varieties of Windows and some Control Panel items might appear only when appropriate hardware is detected.

Here’s a list of canonical names with GUIDs for Windows 7 and Windows Vista. In order access the feature or command directly, create a flder with any name (such as widely used GodMode), and then append the GUID of the corresponding feature or command as suffix or extension to the folder. The folder will then function as shortcut to the Control Panel’s settings.
