Leave Windows Live Hotmail and Revert Back to Classic MSN Hotmail
Windows Live Hotmail which was briefly named as Windows Live Mail during beta, is officially launched as final version. Windows Live Hotmail is the new web-based email service from Microsoft which is intended as the replacement for the classic old MSN Hotmail existed since 1995. Major enhancements in Windows Live Hotmail are extensive use of AJAX for interactive feature and free 2GB email storage space. From 7 May 2007, all new Hotmail accounts will be created as Windows Live Hotmail accounts, while existing MSN Hotmail users can update to Windows Live Hotmail by clicking on the “Join Windows Live Hotmail” button below the Hotmail logo, with beta users automatically switched.
However, the user interface of Windows Live Hotmail is not as intuitive, as responsive or as attractive as you would have expected. After switching over, you may regret your choice and would like to revert back to the old classic Hotmail interface. Luckily, Microsoft still provide a way to switch back to MSN Hotmail, with the downside that you may lose your free 2GB space. Here’s how to do it.
There’re 2 version of Windows Live Hotmail – full version with all the AJAX capabilities such as address auto-complete, reading pane, color schemes and keyboard shortcuts, and classic version which pretty much resemble the user interface the original Hotmail. In fact, classic Windows Live Hotmail interface version is recommended for users with slow internet connection or a monitor that is under 1024 x 768 pixels. If you want to keep the 2GB free space, this is the best option to opt for.
Switch to classic version of Windows Live Hotmail

Simply look for “Switch to classic” link located in the bottom left corner, and you’re done.
Switch back to original MSN Hotmail
If you want to revert back to MSN Hotmail, and don’t care whether you have the free 2GB mail space, click on Options on the top right corner (in full version, a pull down menu will be shown, where you should further click on More Options). You will see the following message.
For full version:
You’re using the full version of Windows Live Hotmail.
Click here to try the classic version, which is good for slow connections.
You can also Switch to MSN Hotmail.
For classic version:
You are using the classic version of Windows Live Hotmail.
Have a fast connection and want more features? Try the full version to see message previews in your inbox. (It’s free, too.)
You can also Switch to MSN Hotmail.
So to revert, click on “Switch to MSN Hotmail”. In the Switch Back page, confirm by clicking on Switch back button. And you’re back to original MSN Hotmail.

Mentioning a very nice gentlemen
Please can you help me switch back to my classic version
thank you admin. !
MY mail is going to Hotmail and I have always used Windows Live Mail. I get the odd email going to Windows Live Mail but I found over 800 emails in Hotmail. I do not want Hotmail and I do not know why this has happened. HELP
I did not ask to change to the new version of Windows Live Hotmail, they changed it for me. Now Roboform won`t fill in my email address and password for me. I figure that windows should change it back automaticaly for me. I want to go back to the classic MSN Hotmail, that I had before.
I like hotmail very mucho, hotmail sign in is easy and hotmail email is useful.
I tried the option drop down suggestion but there is no options to switch shown. This new version is confusing unless you're a computer guru!
Damn Th I do not understand anything = (
This information is obviously outdated (considering that this was written in 2007). All this information is now irrelevant because Microsoft changed everything with the interface.
Yup. Microsoft again forces more junk on us than we want or need. Big Brother is in control. I joined HoTMaiL long before Microsoft bought it and ruined it. Can't opt out of Messenger or any of the other junk. Can only set all options to "Me only". I guess this is why, after having a HoTMaiL account for 15 or 20 years, it has now been hijacked by some drug-dealing jerks and I got mail (supposedly from myself) today about some drug site.
hello
i came across this post just today–i have just moved from USA to South Africa and the connection speeds here are MUCH slower- i can't access my hotmail account and I was reading your helpful entry about how to go back to classic live mail for slow connections. However, when you say "Simply look for “Switch to classic” link located in the bottom left corner, and you’re done." I have no such link on my hotmail master page- can you direct me where to go (is there a link) to make such a change to classic?
Many thanks
I have noticed that if your like me studying online with Open university and have one email address for them within their website and go to your own private Hotmail email adress problems occur with logging in.
goooodd
My Messenger icon is just gone now. I can't IM anybody. I have tried to download it again and it is not working. I don't even know how I got changed to the new live version, but it sucks and I would really like to get back to the old one that was WAY easier to understand. Or just at least fix the damn Messenger, so I can at least use that.

"I WANT MY OLD MAN BACK"
Well you should have treated him better because as you see, he's gone and left you, most likely for some hot young stud. Did you fulfill all his needs? Submit to him when necessary? Probably not, so now you've been left to wank yourself alone. Hope you learned your lesson.
hahahah i wangt my man back lol
Hey all you stupid people, this is just an article by a 3rd party. Do you see Microsoft.com in the URL bar? Do you even know what a URL is? It’s not a support forum you idiots. Microsoft probably will never even look at this page, and I doubt the author of the article will be bothered to help you.

I don't like this new version of hotmail neither, can't do crap with it and can't figue out how to go back to the old hotmail. Please Help.
Everytime I log out of http://www.hotmail.com, I have to wait so long just use this new page to load so I can go about doing what I want to do next. Is there anyway to go to a "text only" version of this page? I don't want flashy video clips and customization, I just want to be able to log in / log out and go about my day. Can this be fixed without upgrading my internet to a high speed cable/t1 line in my home?
thanks you admin..
thanx for you
Do not use Windows Live for getting your Hotmail at work or home. It downloads all of your emails to your computer for all the world to see without you actually signing in. And Microsoft says security is better. How? At least with Outlook Express and manage identities no one else could see my emails. You can open your windows live just by a couple of clicks on the cancel button and it opens up all received emails.
Nice site and fine content
with new windows live ID thing i have attach each photo seperately and it takes ages (((
Dear Sir
I'm unable to see my emails on windows live for a month, it only opens inbox but didn't allow me to enter/read my emails & I am unable to revert back to old MSN Hotmail. I am quite confuse. Please help me

There used to be a column in which message size was displayed – it seems to have vanished this week, at the same time that all the extra crap started showing up upon signing in. Does anyone know if there's any way to get the message size to be displayed again (I'm talking about the emails themselves, not attachment size)??
It seems that Microsoft is trying to compete with Facebook. Hotmail used to be a quiet sanctum of anonymity- a home base, of sorts. Now, they have it in mind to coax you into creating a "profile" and posting a portrait of yourself. I doubt they're going back. When websites change like this, they might allow you to switch back for a while. But, sooner or later, that option compromises their memory load. I think it's already gone. I honestly don't know what they are thinking. Their setup is crude and certainly won't attract anyone looking for social networking. The simple "inbox/outbox" routine (with a no-flair/business-like screen name functionality) has always been hotmail's main draw. When users see that's being infringed upon, they are likely to seek a different resource. I'm not even going to talk about the ad-space they're selling out and the likely cookies being drawn in.
My old screen is too small for the new Hotmail that just popped today, 2/19/09 at 4:40pm, a few minutes ago: there is too much overprinted on a too narrow screen, no sliding bar at the bottom and it is completely UNUSABLE. Please help.
Please can you help me switch back to my classic version
Please, I beg you, revert me back to msn CLASSICS

I established hotmail accounts but am unable to use them. I thought maybe windows live was the answer. Big mistake. I can now get into my account but cannot open an email. I also am not able to change back to regular hotmail as I cannot access the Options pulldown. In the process of establishing a Windows Live account, I ended up with a @live.com email address. I can access that account but also can't read an email on that account nor can I access the Options pulldown from that account. How could Microsoft possibly let such terrible bugs get through a new release.
Any help would be appreciated.
This doesn't work for me. I don't see any link showing where I can switch to classic mode. I cannot find the text "You’re using the full version of Windows Live Hotmail.
Click here to try the classic version, which is good for slow connections." anywhere, on any page, and the help feature doesn't give me any useful information. I really need classic back!
I have the same frustration of being unable to open my Windows Live Hotmail. Then I deleted my Live Messenger, and I could open up my hotmail. i don't know if this works in the long run, becasue i still want MSN to chat to my friends…maybe just don't link the two services.
