  • I received the Garmin 60CSX a few weeks ago and I have spent quite a lot of time with it. There is absolutely a learning curve for those new to civilian GPS units. The 60CSX is MGRS capable, which is wonderful for us Army guys. The Mapsource software makes it easy to chart routes, establish waypoints, download tracks, and upload maps to the 60CSX.

Be prepared that the only map that comes with the unit is a plain base map with only major highways and zero topo features. You will need to get detailed maps of the areas you wish to cover from free on-line sources, or through purchase. The Afghanistan topo map is amazingly detailed.

The 60CSX locks on to satellites quickly, is very accurate, and updates your current position on the fly very quickly. Waypoints are a breeze to establish, even from a moving vehicle.

If you are deploying to Afghanistan in the near future, this should be on your to-buy list.
