Some HP Pavilion dv9000, dv9100, dv9200 and dv9400 series notebook PCs have been identified with a hardware issue where the left display hinge may be broken. Symptoms include popping or cracking sounds from the bottom left corner of the display, or felt loose or wobble in the lower left corner when opening or closing the display panel, and the plastics surrounding the left display hinge may show cracks or breaks.

HP is offering a limited service enhancement program for these specific notebook PCs sold in the United States and Canada, beginning from November 21, 2008 and through May 31, 2009. Users with computer that experiences one or more of the symptoms of the broken left display hinge, and the computers meet the product criteria below is eligible for a free repair.

To eligible for free repair, the HP Notebook PC must be of one of the following series: dv90xx, dv92xx, dv91xx and dv94xx. Beside, the serial number must have a date code of 716 or numerically lower, where the serial number date code is the fourth through sixth digit of the notebook PC serial number. Eligible HP notebook owner can contact HP in North America call 1-866-671-7362 from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm MST, 7 days a week to arrange for free repair. Owner is entitle to free shipping and post-service warranty that covers the left hinge repair for 90 days after HP returns the notebook PC to owner.
