How To Restore and Enable Visual Voicemail (VVM) and MMS That Not Working After iPhone Tethering Hack
After hacking the iPhone to enable Internet tethering without paying your mobile service provider, chance are the MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) and/or VVM (Virtual Voicemail) functions on the iPhone, be it 1st Gen iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G S, may not working anymore.
The problem or error happens because when enabling Internet tethering by loading a new Mobileconfig configuration profile, a new .ipcc (carrier settings) file that enables the tethering, but disables the Visual Voicemail and/or MMS is been installed.
How to fix, restore and re-enable VVM and MMS in iPhone, and most importantly, keep the Internet tethering service intact? The solution is indeed very simple. Just go to Settings -> General -> Reset on iPhone, and tap Reset Network Settings. The iPhone will reboot. After the restart, MMS, VVM and tethering should be working fine again.
Alternatively, go to Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data Network, and set the APN for Visual Voicemail to acds.voicemail. However, doing so will disable Tether and the option to tether will disappear.

I have a HK factory unlocked iPhone 4 that I've used with AT&T without a problem, including Visual Voicemail. Yesterday, I switched the SIM chip to China Unicom to check for any SMS, then switched back to AT&T, and Visual Voicemail is now missing. I tried resetting Network Settings but that didn't solve the problem. I looked under Settings>General but there is no "Profile" button. What should I do?
Thanks.
Thanks. Great tip. Works like a charm in all cases. I'm not jailbroken and had this happen on 3G-S and the reset solved it. Thanks for posting
THANKS!!!!
also i have a iphone3gs
will any of these work on a jailbroken and unlocked phone for t-mobile i can get pic messages but no visual voice mail thanks
I followed #60 reply and the trick resolved my issue.
1:Setting—> General —->Profile
there is an ATT button which is unconfirmed Press REMOVE.
2: Settings -> General -> Reset on iPhone, and tap Reset Network Settings.
Thanks everyone over here.
#71 worked beautifully!!!! Thanks a ton.
Go to [Settings>General>Profile>'Remove'], REMOVE ATT and then restart your phone and your iphone will have its visual voicemail back.
Followed the instructions and visual voicemail came to life — THANK YOU!!!
#57 followed by #32 did it for me. I had no profiles tab on my phone and I could not add the help.benm files.
AT&T Mid Atlantic network, iPhone 3G, v3.1.3, NOT jailbroken, using the carrier settings from http://help.benm.at
Post #47 was exactly what the doctor ordered for my phone. I reset the network settings, which didn't have any visible change. Still no VVM. Tethering still enabled, though. Deleted the "US AT&T" profile as suggested, rebooted, and IT WORKED! Tethering still enabled too!
I had problems with my iPhone 3gs the visual voice just stopped working out of no where then I was getting probles with getting connected to the Internet so basically no safari (off & on), no mail no nothing just some mms and phone calls…… I tried the reset network settings (did not erase anything) and it worked!!! THANK YOU!
all it it take is remoiving att from profile thanks
SteKos (post #47), THANK YOU! It worked like a charm! THANK YOU!
Resting my network didn't do anything for me, but once I deleted tht AT&T profile, my VVM stated working again
works perfect after deleting benM.at in the profile. then reset network settings and voice mails registered when it resprung..
didn't have the cellular data network choice under settings, network and doing a reset of network settings didn't help either. i hit "remove" on the Profile of AT&T under the APN choice within settings, general toward the bottom of that screen.
Did post #39 with a full reset and it worked for me. Yep, I've been missing voicemails since Thanksgiving. haha
Hi guys I made it work by doing this Steps
1:Setting—> General —->Profile
there is an ATT button which is unconfirmed Press REMOVE , it should work perfectly
if u enable tethering it fools the ATT and open up a port which block the VVM System kinda conflict with the same port so try it and let me know
mine works perfect ive been trying everything such as manually setup , reseting and etc,,,
Jailbroken Iphone 3G 3.1.2
The network reset did nothing for you? And you don't have the “cellular data network” option?
Same here, but!!
Drea and then corinne found that the method below worked. It seemed scary but I tried it and … visual voicemail began to work! Woo hoo!
“I didn’t have the “cellular data network” option but I did notice the apn info in something called “Profile” which was under settings> general. there was no way to edit the APN in the advanced settings so I hit “remove” under the Profile button. my VVM is now working and I haven’t had any other problems.”
I did the 'reset network settings' and my phone still called voicemail when I clicked "voicemail". I clicked on it again and immediately clicked on "end call". Then it took me to visual voicemail and asked for my password! I entered my password, and now my visual voicemail seems to be working again.
Strange, but I'll take it
Dial ##002# and call it. It resets the conditional fowarding for voicemail so you no longer get the "please enter the 10 digit phone number you are trying to reach" message when you are tring to call your voicemail from another phone to see if its working. this also helped my visual voicemail work again finally after every other thing failed in google.
I reset network settings, called att, then ##002# and it worked…
also make sure your passwords reset and are the same.
Drea's solution worked for me. It solved an issue with my speakerphone as well.

Thank you!!! I didn't realize until I checked my voicemail, that it was FULL and I didn't see one alert on my iphone. I missed some important vms.
Number 47 was simple and worked for me – VVM MMS and Tethering all working…
My phone was jailbroken… but re-loaded the stock setting since it was too much time and effort for me….
Didn't work at all for me please reply if u kno why it didnt work
Thank You it work
QUESTION….If you delete AT&T USA – BenM.at in your profile. Is there a way of putting it back in? Also, if you click on More Details in the profile option it says advanced settings…Name: wap.cingular….Does anyone know if this is also changed and can you get that back?
