Embed Document For Easy Viewing Via DocShots

It is quite frequent for bloggers or web developers to insert documents into their site to share with visitors. Generally, most web site owners tend to embed a document on their site and allow users to view it with a flash-based widget, or request visitors to download the file for reading. Of course it depends on individual’s needs and presentation style, but if you do not like users to download the file or if you do not have much time and experience programming flash widgets, DocShots provide you with another practical solution. This service allows users to create a library of documents of which users can embed in the page. To read this document, visitors would just need to hover over a text link and they will be prompted with a small window displaying the contents of the document.

Technically, the concept of DocShots is nothing new and other services such as Apture or HHOTT View provide almost similar features to it. Having said that, DocShots has made things much easier especially for non tech-savvy users. Besides, this service supports more formats to be posted, e.g. doc, pdf, ppt, xls, etc and it allows users to customize the size of the pop-up windows. Services like DocShots will be quite useful in terms of business presentations. For instance, lawyers can embed court cases, writers explanation notes or marketers product briefs in their presentations.

DocShots is currently in Beta version and it is free. Registered users will be given a snippet of JavaScript to be added to their site. Once you have added the code, DocShots will recognize your site and allow you to login to DocShots account and start uploading documents. DocShots allows users to customize the display window and keep track of the traffic of the documents in their library, e.g. how many visitors have viewed, printed or downloaded the documents.
