Skype On New 2010 LG Broadband HDTVs With NetCast Entertainment Access

LG Electronics and Skype have announced that embedded Skype software will be available on new 2010 LG HDTVs including 26 new LED, LCD and plasma HDTVs starting this Spring, which enables Skype fans to make voice and HD video calls directly from their family room using their televisions, without the need of a PC, aiming to bring your Skype experience to a next level.

However, you still have to purchase a separate camera with an integrated microphone to enjoy Skype right from the new LG broadband HDTVs.

“Embedding the Skype software in our broadband HDTVs enriches the user experience, allowing consumers to connect with family and friends from the comfort of their family room without a PC,” said Peter Reiner, senior vice president for marketing at LG Electronics USA. “Skype on LG HDTVs will give our customers another flexible option in allowing them to communicate using Skype, as well as access content directly through their HDTV.”

Skype features of new LG HDTVs:

• Free Skype-to-Skype voice and video calls to other Skype fans
• Calls to landline or mobile phones at Skype’s low rates
• Option to receive inbound calls via user’s online Skype number
• Skype voicemail (if it is set up)
• Being invited to participate in voice conference calls (up to 24 other parties)

“We know that Skype users are increasingly interested in conducting video calls away from their computers. With Skype, consumers of LG’s NetCast HDTVs will now be able to participate in rich, real-time video conversations from the comfort of their couch,” commented Josh Silverman, CEO of Skype. “A hallmark of Skype is the ability to bring people together. Consumers can see the demonstration of Skype on the new 2010 LG HDTVs at 2010 International CES.
