Microsoft Office Accounting Discontinued From November 16, 2009

Office Accounting Professional 2009Microsoft Office Accounting, which formerly known as Small Business Accounting, was the Microsoft’s accounting software answer to Intuit’s QuickBooks, and was targeted towards small businesses that have between 1 and 25+ employees. Finally Microsoft has decided to focus on its core competency, and as the result, the Office Accounting product line is another financial and accounting related software which is dropped by Microsoft, besides Microsoft Money.

From November 16, 2009, Microsoft will stop selling and distributing all products under the Office Accounting umbrella brand in North America and the UK, including Office Accounting Express, Office Accounting Standard, Office Accounting Professional, Office Accounting Professional Plus, Office Accounting 3-user, and Small Business Accounting.

For existing customers of Office Accounting, Microsoft will continue to provide five years of mainstream support and five years of extended support after the product is released, in line with Microsoft’s support policy.

Unlike Microsoft Money, which free download wasn’t available, Microsoft Office Accounting Express is a freeware, and available for free download by everybody. But the download will be cut off from November 16, 2009, where existing customer can only request lost license product key and software download by submit manual form to resend confirmation email. So those who interested to use Office Accounting product should download, install and activate either Office Accounting Express 2009, or Office Accounting Professional 2009, which available as free upgrade to earlier version of Office Accounting paid license.

I bought QB Pro 2010 and tried to run the converton from Ofice Accounting 2009 and it failed. QB charged me $50 to do the conversion for me. What crap! Wish I had bought Peachtree or ANYthing else. I really liked Office Accounting. Now I am stuck on QB yuk!

Accounting 2012, what is the conversion tool? Is it integrated into Quickbooks?

Amazing. Microsoft threw in the towel. I’m not surprised. I just reinstalled my MSA 2009 on my PC after upgrading to Windows 7. I like Windows 7 but the experience was a disaster. I had to go find a version of SQL server that would run on Windows 7 64 and install and configure that to run with MSSBIZ before I could get MSA 2009 to install and upgrade. OK. I could do it but I doubt that most people could. I’m sure the phone was ringing off the hook at Microsoft on this one.

Now I find that the Quickbooks program to convert Accounting 2009 files to Quickbooks 10 won’t run on Windows 7 64.

I’ll probably have to reinstall QB on my old XP machine to convert my MSA 2009 files to Quickboocks and then reinstall everything back on the Windows 7 machine to run. Yeeeesh.

About a year ago, I almost switched from QuickBooks to Office Accounting… thank goodness I didn’t.
