AIS Rugged Tablet PC Targeted for Industrial and Military Usage

Netbook is no longer limited to consumer market but with a bit of redesigned effort, it can be used in other segments such as industrial and even military applications. Just recently, AIS has unveiled a new Intel Atom based rugged tablet PC targeted for harsh environment.

The tablet PC is concealed with aluminum-magnesium alloy that makes it resistible to mechanical stress, drop test, dust and water proof to certain extent. Featured with a 10.4-inch touch-sensitive sunlight readable SVGA resolution LCD display module, the machine is compliant to IP54 as well as Military 810F standards. The tiny machine is powered by Intel famous N270 Atom processor running at 1.6GHz, backup by 2GB memory RAM and 2.5-inch hard disk drive with 80GB, it offers sufficient processing power for typical office applications while able to run various kinds of segment specific applications compatible to Windows and even Linux Operating Systems. As expected, it is paired with 945GSE chipset and ICH7M three-chip solutions that include support for PCI-Express, USB 2.0 host, Compact Flash slot and legacy serial COM port. Other specifications include the GPS (Global Positioning System), Bluetooth as well as Wireless 802.11b/g technologies that can be connected directly from these interfaces.

Due to additional test and qualification to meet stringent requirements, the machine is quite pricey and at a retail price of $1499, it could be two to three times more expensive than a conventional netbook under similar specifications.
