Download Windows Movie Maker 2.6 To Fix Video Card Hardware Acceleration Error in Vista
Windows Movie Maker is included in Windows operating system as a basic video creating and editing software. Windows Vista also has a version of Windows Movie Maker, which includes new effects and transitions, and support for the DVR-MS file format which Windows Media Center records television in, with support for capturing from HDV camcorders in Windows Vista Home Premium and Ultimate.
On some computer systems running Windows Vista, the built-in Windows Movie Maker cannot be ran or launched with the following error message:
Windows Movie Maker cannot start because your video card does not support the required level of hardware acceleration or hardware acceleration is not available.
The cause for the error is obviously due to old unsupported video card adapter. To allow these lower end Windows Vista systems to run Windows Movide Maker (WMM), Microsoft has released an updated but older Windows Movie Maker 2.6 for Windows Vista on Microsoft Download Center.
Windows Movie Maker 2.6 is basically similar to Windows Movie Maker 2.1, which was distributed to Windows XP systems in Service Pack 2 (SP2). Windows Movie Maker 2.6 includes old effects and transitions, and does not support video capturing ability.

Movie Maker 2.6 requires a version of Microsoft Windows Vista that has the Vista version of Movie Maker already installed, and is only intended for use on computers where the hardware accelerated version cannot be run.
