Lenovo Initiated Recall Program for its ThinkPad Batteries

Previously we mentioned about Acer Battery Recall that affected its TravelMate and Aspires series, now seems that Lenovo has started to recall some of its batteries pack used in its ThinkPad notebook series. Some of the ThinkPad models that are impacted include R60, R61, T60, T61, X60 and X61 series and if you are one of the Lenovo fans owning any of these ThinkPad models, do check it out and you may be entitled for a free battery replacement.

The symptoms of the batteries’ problem include the system error message such as “irreparable damage”, “battery cannot be charged”, “low battery capacity”, abnormal deterioration of battery life, battery damage and all sorts of weird battery related problems. While no detail on how this happen, the issue is believed to be due to defective battery cells embedded in the battery packs. Nevertheless, the safety risk is believed to be low, but the manufacturer insisted for proactive action to inform consumers on the potential issue with extended service program offering prolong warranty period on top of what usually covered by normal warranty period. Since not all battery packs are affected, the company has released a diagnostic tool that is able to examine if a particular battery pack is in risk and qualified for free replacement.

No exact quantity of how many notebook batteries were affected but this is considered a relatively low profile recall program as compared to those ‘major disaster’ that happened before. More information at Lenovo Support site.
