The jailbreak tool for iPhone and iPod Touch in Mac OS X, PwnageTool, has been updated to version 3.0 in order to support jailbreaking on new version of iPhone OS software 3.0. Pwnage Tool, which is a Mac based iPhone firmware creation tool for creating custom IPSW (firmware file), supports jailbreak of original first generation iPhone (iPhone 2G), second generation iPhone 3G, and original 1st generation iPod Touch (iPod Touch 1G).

The Apple devices on iPhone OS firmware 3.0 that are supported by PwnageTool 3.0 include:

  • iPhone 3G
  • iPhone 2G (BootNeuter unlocks baseband to allow free use of SIM card from other cellular service as well)
  • iPod Touch 1G (1st Generation)

For unsupported iPhone 3Gs (3G S), uses Purplera1n to jailbreak and Ultrasn0w to unlock. 2nd generation new iPod Touch and Windows users can use Redsn0w to jailbreak.

Download PwnageTool 3.01 for Mac

PwnageTool 3.0 is the official version of PwnageTool released by iPhone Dev Team. However, there is a newer version of PwnageTool 3.01 circulating in BitTorrent network, which is said to fix compatibility issue with PPC version of Mac OS X and update the Icy package. Interested jailbreakers can download via torrent.
