HP Massively Recalls Notebook Batteries Due to Safety Issue

HP (Hewlett Packard) has just announced a massive recall action for its notebook batteries sold in US market. Although no actual injury incident yet, but the famous US based PC manufacturer, in cooperation with CPSC (US Consumer Product Safety Commission) is taking precaution countermeasure to ensure that all the battery packs released to consumer market are safe to use.

The main reason for the recall action is due to the safety concern that the affected Lithium Ion batteries could be overheated and potentially cause fires and harm to consumers. Not much detail has been released but there were two actual incidents being reported that caused minor property damage to consumers.

The recall affects around 70,000 notebook batteries, which include both HP and Compaq notebook batteries that being sold between August 2007 to March 2008. Some of the models are like HP Pavilion, HP Compaq and Compaq Presario that have been widely used in both enterprise and home environments.
