I have the same problem with the RC. I find that it always happens after I perform the following steps:
1. Click the orb to open the start menu.
2. Hover over the “Internet Explorer” shortcut, expanding the menu to the right to show “Frequent” and “Task”s shortcuts.
3. Click outside the start menu to close it.
Now, if I click the orb to bring up the start menu again, it renders low and behind the taskbar.
Also, I found I am able to get it back to normally much more easily, by right-clicking the orb and selecting “Properties”, then clicking OK on the “Taskbar and Start Menu Properties” window.

Yes, this happens with the RC, cause it happens to me at least once a day. Oh well, I like the OS and I’m sure they’ll fix it soon.
