How to Slipstream or Integrate Microsoft Office 2007 Service Pack (SP1 and SP2) Into RTM Installation Files
Microsoft Office 2007, officially known as 2007 Microsoft Office System Suite or Server, has received two service packs (Office 2007 SP1 and Office 2007 SP2) up till now. Service packs contain important stability, reliability, performance and security improvements, and include all updates released till service pack is finalized.
Thus, it’s recommended to always install the latest and more current service pack for Microsoft Office 2K7. For consumers who have Microsoft Office 2007 RTM (without any service pack applied) CD/DVD disc or ISO image, and wants the newly available SP1 or SP2 to be installed whenever the Office productivity suite is installed on a computer, and slipstream or integrate the SP1 or SP2 update into the original DVD ISO image. The integrated Office 2007 installation ISO image or disc helps save update installation time after installing Office 2007 RTM or SP1 (for SP2), and ensure that the newer SP is installed.
Microsoft Office 2007 setup program will install any new updates that found inside the Updates folder in the installation media. The updates must be in .msp file format (MSP or Windows Installer Patch) in order to be recognized during setup installation process. Follow the steps below in order to slipstream and integrate Office 2007 SP1 or Office 2007 SP2 into original Office 2007 RTM installation files.
- Extract and copy the contents of the Office 2007 RTM (or Office 2007 SP1 if want to apply SP2) image or disc to a temporary folder.
For example, C:\Office2007.
- Download or copy the Office 2007 SP1 Update file or Office 2007 SP2 Update file to another temporary folder.
For example, C:\Office2007SP1 (office2007sp1-kb936982-fullfile-en-us.exe) or C:\Office2007SP2.
- Open a command prompt, and run the following command to retrieve and get the Office 2007 SP update MSP:
C:\Office2007SP1\office2007sp1-kb936982-fullfile-en-us.exe /extract:C:\Office2007\Updates\
Note: The drive letters, folder names and the service pack file names (name for SP1 and SP1 is different) may vary according to your own preferences.
- Accept the Microsoft Software License Terms to start integrating the service pack to Office 2007 installation files. The process will expand several .msp files to “Updates” folder.
- Optionally, uses disc image manipulation programs to re-create a fresh Office 2007 SP1/SP2 ISO image, or burn the Office 2007 SP1/SP2 installation files inside C:\Office2007 folder to a disc media with disk burning software.
The setup for Office 2007 will now automatically apply updates for SP1 and/or SP2 during instalation.

the problem I have with method is in checking for updates from Microsoft. The check always indicates that SP2 is not installed and wants to download and install it, even though looking in the properties of the installed Office suite clearly shows SP2 is installed.

Why would you want to add space on purpose when it is not needed? Since the SP1 is not required for integrating SP2 why leave SP1 in there? A plain SP2 install is better than leaving SP1 files in the Update Folder that are not even needed. You may not store much on your hard drive, but I do. Here and there saving some MB’s can add up after a while. It would fit on a CD if it were compressed. Now don’t tell me you cannot install it then when it is compressed. However I prefer plain installations. You do what you want and I do the way I want it. So on…Greetz!

If you have Office 2007 RTM you don’t have to delete anything. If you have Office 2007 SP1 with the SP1 already integrated go to the Update Folder and delete the files inside it. Then after that do the above step for SP2 integration. You do NOT need SP1 to be able to integrate SP2! By doing it this way it saves you space and I can verfify it works 100%. I done it and I installed it without any bugs or errors. Perfect.

Hey Admin,
I need an answer to this: I have Office RTM. Do I need to deploy SP1 and then SP2 in Updates folder, or just SP2?
EDIT:
Testing: I have tried both ways (SP1 + SP2)which works! But the office is about 1,18 GB then.
Testing 2: I have deleted the Update files of SP1 in the Update Folder of the Office 2007, then I applied directly SP2! That works too and the Office Folder gets under 950 MB which is good. Saves Space. So both ways work for me. I installed both versions without any problem! I hope I was able to help!
