Download Windows Server 2008 and Vista SP2 RTM (6002.18005)

Microsoft has finally compiled the final RTM version of Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. As usual, the setup installer for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 SP2 have been leaked to Internet for free download by all, way ahead of official Microsoft release.

The final RTM of SP2 for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista has the file build version of 6002.18005, with full string of 6.0.6002.18005, as mentioned in article about SP2 RTM-Escrow, and confirmed by Windows Team Blog post. mychaelo has posted on My Digital Life forums the leaked Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 standalone setup installers, for both 32bit and 64bit, in the form of RapidShare and DepositFiles HTTP download links plus torrents for BT download.

The standalone setup installer for Windows Vista and WS 2008 SP2 contains all 36 languages to support all localized operating systems. No need to wait for any separate language waves to be released.In essence, the SP2 for Vista and WS2008 should release in only 2 waves, much like practice when releasing Windows Vista SP1 – wave 0 for 5 core languages and wave 1 for all languages. There is confusion that wave 1 of the SP2 may be limited to just Italian, Dutch, Russian and Traditional Chinese, but it’s the release waves for Windows 7. Update: Wave 1 with 5 languages of SP2 for Windows Server 2008 and Vista has been made available generally and officially by Microsoft. Wave 2 with Windows Server 2008 and Vista SP2 all language standalone update package is also released.

IE7 in Windows Vista SP2
The Service Pack 2 does not upgrade the IE7 (Internet Explorer 7) to IE8 (Internet Explorer 8). Thus, users has to manually download and install IE8 update themselves.

Windows Vista Users will require to download and install Windows Vista SP1 prior to updating SP2. Officially, the roll out of Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 via Windows Update will take months, although the installer will make available publicly soon, during the second quarter of 2009. Those not intends to install SP2 onto their system should download and install Windows Service Pack Blocker Tool Kit. However, Windows Vista SP1 will be made mandatory and started to deploy to all Windows Vista soon.

Windows Vista SP2 Build File Version

For Windows users who prefer to fresh install Windows Vista with SP2 from clean state (after reformatting hard disk), Windows Vista with SP2 slipstreamed or integrated or Windows Server 2008 with SP2 slipstreamed DVD ISO images are also leaked to Internet. Also read summary of changes in the SP2.

    overflyer, you don’t need any KB to install SP2 from standalone installer becouse every KB is in SP2. It seams that your Vista was vLited. Read this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968279

    Hey guys,

    I cannot install SP2. After my first click on “Next” the Setup tells me “At least one Systemcomponent, which is required for Service Pack 2. You’ll get further Information by clicking on the Link below.”

    1) I just translated this Error message from the German Language, so I dont know if it will be displayed exactly like this in english.

    2) Of course I clicked on the link “below”. Its a Microsoft Knwoledge Base Article, but it doesnt help me out.

    3)I already installed KB947821, which is required for installing SP2.

    Can somebody tell me what component my system is missing?

    Yes it does,i update my sp1 the other day and i notice that i had 15 days till i activate my windows.. Vistaloader 4.1 solve my problem ;)

    Correction: The http download of wave 0 x64 via depositfiles aborted suddenly after ~ 57 MiB, couldn’t even download the torrent because I was “already downloading a file” and the only other I found was the one with but the entire image.

    Goodness, depositfiles is atrocious. Slow as a slug and the x64 wave 0 torrent only contains the entire OS image.

    Rapidshare or megaupload, anyone?

    OK, installed the SP2 into my VM Server 2008 install as a test – it reset the activation timer back to 60-days. I applied the current Server 2008 activation bypass & forced the clock ahead 4 months – it still works!

    Again, I don’t think this patch works for Vista. Google ‘Windows Server 2008 Bypass Activation v1.1′ & look for the release data to be May 3rd. of last year…
