Procsys Announced Intel Atom Handheld Device for Industrial Market
Nowadays Intel Atom processor is so famous that has been widely used in netbook and nettop market. But have you even wonder that it has penetrated well into embedded markets and can be used to power up a handheld POS (Point of Sale) device? Just recently, Procsys, the famous Indian manufacturer has announced a Linux based portable device targeted for industrial market with various functionalities.

The device, with the codename of Ion 2600 is powered by Intel Atom Z5XX clocking at maximum of 1.6GHz. Further backed up with either 512MB or 1GB memory and with a internal SSD (Solid State Disk) capacity of up to 16GB, it is quite suitable to be used in replacing conventional microcontroller or XScale processor that is currently monopolizing the handheld market. To make it more attractive, Ion 2600 is featured with a 4.1-inch touchscreen LCD display with 800 X 480 resolution, QWERTY keyboard, 500 dpi fingerprint sensor as well as a 2-inch miniature thermal printer with multiple networking connectivity such as wired 10/100 Ethernet or wireless 802.11b/g, Bluetooth and even GSM/GPRS/EDGE cellular networks to ensure mobile connectivity while on the move.
No pricing and availability yet, we should expect the product to reach market space preloaded with either Linux Ubuntu, Windows CE or XP Embedded Operating Systems in short future.
