O.k, if your struggling to get from a .zip or .rar file to a .ipsw file here’s how you do it-well for vista but I’m sure XP will be similar. Go to: My Computer-Organize-View, then uncheck ‘hide extensions for known file types’. Go back to .zip file and delete .zip and replace with .ipsw click o.k-you’ll be prompted if you really wanna do it-and yep you really wanna do it. Hey Presto ur .zip file now looks like a lego brick. I’d re-check the ‘hide extensions for known file types’ personally-leave things as you found them etc. Now ur free to ’shift’ restore in DFU mode in iTunes and locate ur new .ipsw file

If you download the file through Mozilla, you get the ipsw file… When you dl it through IE you wont be able to see it!

Download the zip file. I get several files and no ipsw file. What do I do with the downloaded zip file to get the ipsw for Itunes to work with.

I downloaded the firmware update and since it was in the ZIP format, I unzipped it….

And when unzipped…There was no .ipsw file in it…It had all these other types of files such as .dmg,etc…

Please help me….
