My laptop had a suspected broken left hinge issue so I ordered a set of new hinges. On opening the case, I found that the hinges were fine but it was the plastic screw mounts (for the hinges) in the lid that had all snapped! So I ordered a new lid as well. Even though the parts were not that cheap, this is a nice laptop and it would be a shame to throw it away.

Couple of observations:
1) new left hinge has been slightly redesigned so it appears to be stronger.
2)the new lid has some reinforcement near the mounting posts.

I dont recommended you fix the laptop yourself unless you know what you are doing. Best to get HP or computer shop to replace the parts for you.

I have an HP Pavillion notebook and I am having the same problems... customer service said that the recall is over now and that my particular model wasn't included in the recall which I find ridiculous because it is obvious that their notebooks are all having problems with hinges cracking! I am just going to use this computer until the screen falls off then I'm getting a computer from another company, I will NEVER purchase another HP product!!!

I had been buying HP for all scanners, printers, since DOS & Windows 3. This JUNK dv9035 ordered with XP and delivered with VISTA caused me to scrap 2 new photosmart printers (HP said go buy new printers) I've replaced my obsolete equipment with 3 new HP printers/scanners/lasers. Now my laptop hings is coming apart. This is a sign of what to expet from HP... They will never get another dollar from me or my company. HP service and quality is lacking.

My laptop today started exhibiting this exact defect and nothing else. I called HP and they said even though they acknowledge the defect is due to poor manufacturing but they had only allowed a limited time for such free repairs(expired in May 2009) even though the defect may occur at any time!! This should make Dell happy because I told them that is not how to stand behind your products and their defects. Next laptop will be Dell!!
