Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 Beta Information Page at KB948465
The Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 is already in the pipeline to be released before Windows 7 official RTM schedule (download Windows 7 M1), with first beta is expected to be made available for public download sometimes mid November.
The information page for the beta release of second service pack is labeled with Article ID 948465 (KB948465), and a placeholder page for KB948465 Update has been created at support.microsoft.com, although there is nothing much information appears on the page yet. It’s unclear if the SP2 for both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 will have the same KB number, but from history, probably at least one of them will be released as KB948465 in Windows Update, Microsoft Update and Automatic Updates.
Some of the new features and enhancements planned for the Windows Vista SP2 include Windows Search 4.0, Bluetooth (BT) wireless support, BT 2.1 fixes, new VIA 64-bit CPU support, print server and spooler performance improvements for printers, and of course, plenty of application compatibility updates.
Windows Server 2008 SP2 updates meanwhile include backward compatibility with Terminal Services licensing keys, improved manageability features with DFS/FRS console, Storage Resource Manager, print server and spooler performance improvements for printers, and improved error reporting in DFSR to help identify incorrectly configured deployments which lead to failed replication.
Note: There is no Windows Server 2008 SP1 (Service Pack 1) been released as Windows Server 2008 is already shipped with SP1 integrated, so there won’t be any Windows Server 2008 SP1 in circulation.
