Direct Download and Install Google Earth Without Google Updater or Pack
For user who wants or tries to download Google Earth setup installer from official Google Earth website (http://earth.google.com), the installation executable file that is been downloaded is for Google Updater instead, after user clicks on “Download Google Earth” (current version 4.3) and “Agree (Terms and Conditions) and Download” buttons.

Download Google Earth is not what it means to be.
Google Earth has been included as part of Google Pack, which has Google Updater as one of its core program. Google Update is a memory-resident and sit on system tray (notification area) application program that downloads and installs all the software selected in the Google Pack, beside monitoring the status (check for new version) of installed software, run software that’s been installed, or uninstall software.
Most people who needs Google Earth does not require or like Google Updater to automatically install and update Google Earth for them though. Fortunately Google also provides standalone installation setup .EXE and .DMG file to install Google Earth on Windows PC or Mac OS X computer, albeit not clearly and not directly.
In Google Earth Help topic related to installation and uninstallation, a direct download link to latest version of Google Earth is provided. It’s main provided as an alternative for user having problem installing Google Earth through Google Updater, however, it’s also complete installation package of Google Earth to avoid and bypass Google Updater.
The direct download link of latest current version of Google Earth:
PC: http://dl.google.com/earth/client/current/GoogleEarthWin.exe
Mac: http://dl.google.com/earth/client/current/GoogleEarthMac.dmg

Works for me. Thanks! Got Google Earth in about 30 seconds thanks to Google (for their search) and landing on your page.

Doesn’t work anymore.
Works ok for Mac, but the windows link to directly download the file ends up loading the Google Updater program.
There seems no way now to download the Win program directly.

The link posted by Cappella works fine, links to the 10MB file instead of the small installer file.

To Annoyed,
You can install to a different directory.
1. Run ‘GoogleEarth-Win-Plus-5.0.11337.1968.exe’.
2. Do not click on anything … go to the “Temp” directory and look for a work directory with Google Earth installation files.
3. Look for a MSI file called “Google Earth.msi”. You can use search to find this file to determine the work directory.
4. Go to command prompt, and type this:
“Google Earth.msi” INSTALLDIR=

Everybody suck my dick! Uuuuuunderstaaaaaaaaand?

Whats with the only only one place to install.
Only one place to put the cache.
Only one place to put anything.
I use a drive letter for just the OS.
That way WHEN windows scrags itself I only lose it to the reformat bunnies.
GE installs without warning to my win drive and no choice at all about setup.
I want it on a DIFFERENT drive letter with my other apps.
I would like to not lose my place marks just because windows scrags and some bone headed genius has decided that doc’s & setting’s is the be all and end all of storage places.
The new features are nice but the installation is unsafe.
Even office, dev studio & the sdk’s the very definitions of MS bloat ware let you decide where you want everything. The earlier versions of GE also used to.
So now we are limited to one vision?
Come on Google get some brains back in the game and remember that customers and clients don;t come out of cookie cutters, some of us actually think for ourselves.

Direct download link for Google Earth 5 is at:
http://dl.google.com/earth/client/GE5/release_5_0/GoogleEarth-Win-Plus-5.0.11337.1968.exe
February 3rd, 2009 22:43
For Google Earth 5. Even if you use the “standalone” links, it is no longer a standalone installer.
When you run GoogleEarthWin.exe, check the task manager. There will be 2 additional process added “GoogleEarthWin.exe” and “GoogleUpdate.exe”.
And we thought MS is evil.
February 3rd, 2009 06:27
Yes, it does download version 5, but this installer is no longer a ’stand alone’ installer, as it still has to download the main installer first.
February 3rd, 2009 05:05
The direct link works for acquiring the new version, version 5, of Google Earth too.

Worked like a charm. I don’t understand why Google make it so damned difficult. It is becoming more and more like Microsoft. Thank you
