Disabling does not work. It continually reverts to making suggestions each time internet explorer is activated each search has suggestions shown which is very annoying.

This worked for me when first i disabled the query suggestion. Next I added it to my favorites. Close Gooogle then start it again click the google favorite and make it your home page. It should read like this http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0

I don't have the option to turn off the suggestions as there isn't a "Query Suggestion" box appearing, and I agree these popups are F*&^%$g annoying. If you use Google as your home page reste it to http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0

So far so good and no annoying suggestions - just hope it stays that way.

The response is wrong. The preference keeps getting reset to the default. So now every time I use google I am not only distracted by a bunch of popup text (the suggestions, none of which I want), but then I'm further distracted by having to go to the preferences page and reset my preference!

I think its useful to suggest text that I searched for previously, but to suggest a bunch of text simply because it's similar to what I've written so far is annoying and worthless.

But just going to the Google Preference Page is an inconvenience. They should have a checkbox to switch it on or off on the front page.
