McAfee Avert Stinger is another stand-alone scanning and removal tool from McAfee. Unlike other antivirus programs, this application does not feature the functions for full and comprehensive anti-virus protection. It works more as a tool to assist administrators and users to deal with an infected system. With the latest scan engine technology, Stinger can perform process scanning, scan digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations.

McAfee Avert Stinger has released the latest McAfee AVERT Stinger 10.0.0.441. This particular release has included specific detection and repair for W32/Polip. However, this release has its weaknesses. Due to the nature of the infection algorithm, the repair of files infected with W32/Polip with this release may not return the files to their pristine, pre-infected state, and can cause problems with self-checking applications.
