I think that the free portion that online backup sites offer is somewhat irrelevant. The goal is to get your to try their service, and 1-5GB is good enough for that. If you really want online backup and file sharing, then upgrade to one of these companies Pro or Premium accounts.

My favorite free online backup and file sharing company is http://www.MyOtherDrive.com. They have industrial strength unattended backup operation and 128-bit encryption for security. But they do not stop at online backup.

What makes these guys stand out is that they get it - OK, my files are backed up and safe - that is great. But now I want to share out a portion of my files. They can do that publicly, or you can even share files privately - where you control who can view your files. Very nice.

They have a new really cool feature that allows you to move and copy files and folders between accounts - without upload - download - All done on the back end. Way cool site.

Does anyone know how to mount the disk to the Finder without the plug in? I want the drive to mount every time I log onto my computer, but I can only do that through the application. I found the address that the server connects to ("Get Info" on the "Files" drive) but whenever I type in my username and password in the popup it says the password or user name is wrong. I know both are correct but maybe the iDrive company tags something onto the username that I don't know about?
What can I do?

2GB free was impressive in the past but it if fairly standard and not very useful now. Most people use a lot more than 2GIGS and offering 2gigs doesn't make an entrant stand out in the market place. I rekon as per the Backupanytime Who's who in data, 5 gigs free is a must to entice unless the per gig price is negligable or the service offering is very different to mainstream online backup.
