You and Me - Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Theme Song Music Video and Lyric (by Sarah Brightman and Liu Huan)
If you have watched the live, delayed or encore telecast of the opening ceremony of Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, held in the “Bird Nest” (see the Bird Nest made in LEGO) and liked the Olympic theme song sang by British Soprano Sarah Brightman and Chinese singer Liu Huan, its name is “You and Me”, and the official music video for the song has been released, expectedly starred by Sarah Brightman and Liu Huan, plus tens of named people from all over the world.
“You and Me” is considered by some to be one of the best and most touching Olympic theme song in history. You must be wondered why Sarah Brightman was singing on the Beijing Olympics 2008 Opening Ceremony, which has been labeled by many to be China show of pride. Surprisingly, the director of the opening ceremony, Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, prefer a Chinese to perform the song with a ‘foreigner’ in order to highlight the Olympic slogan - One World, One Dream, and the title of the song - You and Me, to signify different races of people from different countries on Earth joining together in Olympic Games, regardless languages speak, skin colors, and other man-made barriers.
The part of You and Me sang by Sarah Brightman is in English, although Liu Huan sang in Chinese (mixed in towards the end). The complete lyric of You and Me is as follow:

You and Me was composed by Chen Qigang who is a Shanghai born French Chinese.

I love brotherhood but I’ll make my case clear : if the lyrics are very nice and so sweet and so on, the music IMO is perfectly lousy, no melody, so modern as such, sounds like … nothing or everything. Drama of emptiness!

@Kev: What the?! I wasn’t aware China had control over Youtube. And I wasn’t aware they didn’t want the world to see their own country’s opening ceremony, which rocked. pft, please. think before speaking. don’t believe everything western media tells you.
But yeah, this song was amazing. I liked how Sarah’s voice wasn’t all breathy like the typical american singer, and it gave the atmosphere beauty and sense of forever-ness.

This song is not one of the best but in my opinion one of the worst songs of all olympic games. If someone askes me wich was the best Olympic theme song in history, I would say it was “Barcelona” from Freddie Mercury with Montserrat Caballe, without thining twice.
Also, the videoclip seems very “fake” under the current cninese policy scenario ( seems made for united colors of benetton) and lacks the true olimpic feeling of sacrifice and victory, and so on…

In my opinion,the song is one of the best songs. I love this song,Because the song has shown the peace among all of the countries.
No matter which country you come from,the name “YOU AND ME” link us together!It just show the theme of Olympic perfectly!
And the atmosphere is so beautiful too.

The Chinese government didnt censor the video - it is an IOC regulation that no videos are to be posted anywhere without the permission of the broadcast networks in respective countries, and because youtube is accessed by all people no olympics content is allowed.

Well i’m a Chinese
at first time I hear the song from the openning ceremony i indeed disopointed because it’s not like any song of the Olympic Games before,its rhythm is slow had no passion
but the third time when i hear it from the TV i’m sucked in .
i came to think it to be the most touching one i had ever heard.then everytime i hear it i mihgt cry just because it make me think a lot.
The Olympic spirit can be passion,but something deeply is still the eternal theme that is peace and harmony ,simple as the song.i think that is the Olympic spirit.
