@George Clark – I have the same experience as you. It seems that some Google Products can be removed but others cannot. I would like to remove Talk so that I can register GMail on my mail Google account using a more sensible user name… sadly it seems that the only way is to delete my Google account (which is linked to many services and then set up a new Google Account!

I have a Picasa username that I want to use as my Google account username but I can’t because Picasa has it. So, if I close and delete all services, can I use that username or I won’t be able to?.
I ask this because of this If you use Gmail with your account, you’ll no longer be able to access that email. You’ll also be unable to reuse your Gmail username..
