I bought a new computer with ugh Vista 64 bit and installed Firefox 3.5 fresh and had this issue. No fixes worked. On my old computer I never knew about the problem because I have been upgrading since the first version. I had to remove Firefox 3.5 and install 3. I made sure the warning worked then installed 3.5 on top. Worked perfectly.

Feature my ass, they screwed up. It also doesn’t confirm you want to close when you are downloading. Was that intentional? Their new restore feature is garbage too; I’m getting sick of seeing that stupid message about how a tab is keeping Firefox from loading

Oh, man, I was looking for the option to turn on the prompt and didn’t even expect that this stupidity is now a “feature”.

I often close a tab by pressing “CTRL+W” and “CTRL+Q” is right next to it and when I accidentialy hit it the tabs close and any partially filled forms get lost too; why that is a problem? I have an app that has a huge form as a table of about 19000+ products. Every time I mis-hit the keys I have to start over from the last save point, never mind trying to find where I left off..

This is the most stupid “feature” I’ve heard about.

Yes yes, very useful, I’ve been using the “Show my windows and tabs from last time” for a while now and it’s great. However, my occasional problem is that some websites open things in a separate window despite my setting to open new pages in a new tab. If I then close Firefox from the tabbed window and I’ve forgotten that there was another window open, then bingo I’ve lost my tabs. Any way to get them back without trawling through the history for each one? A kind of “restore the session before last” button?

I accidently selected not to show the dialog again but couldn’t find the setting where re-enable it.

It’s odd there is no reference to this behaviour in the FF wiki.

Thanks for the article. What helped me solve this issue, which prevented me to migrate to FF3 for so long. Now thanks to junglelove (comment #19) I am able to use FF3 with the way I was accustomed to use it since god knows when!

I have been using ff since v0.8+
I have been puzzled by ff3 behavior for a long time until i read this article.
Because I have checked the warning box as the description seems to convey. Indeed, the description is very misleading since it doesn’t do what it says.

Anyway I tried to change the browser.warnOnQuit
browser.warnOnRestart
to true as suggested by no.20 by double clicking but nothing changes to true, although I can change other topics. I don’t understand why I can’t change them.
So I tried browser.tabs.warnOnClose = true as per no 10 but I’m afraid to actually test it by closing the window yet unless I have to sooner or later because the restore tabs don’t work on all sites since some sites will require you to sign-in again.

Now I think ff3 is digressing by omitting some useful features like this warning and also autocomplete off,
and in the process, offended some loyal users.

I hope they fix this feature or there is a better browser whichever come first.

-go to windows search
-type in: C:\Users\YOUR NAME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
-open folder labeled: evdigo0r.default
-deleted “prefs” line
-restart FF

after this it started asking me if i wanted to save before closing multiple tabs again. and no other preferences were changed.

for me, this fixed the problem:

first, make sure you have firefox set to warn you when closing multiple tabs, under the tab options.

then go to about:config
set both of the following to true:

browser.warnOnQuit
browser.warnOnRestart

btw, i think i also know how these settings got messed up. i think the “tab mix plus” extension can alter these settings and they stay that way even after you’ve uninstalled it.

to fix and get the dialog for save quit/quit/cancel you have to set browser.startup.page value=0 if you have it as 1, 2 or 3 3 will auto save every time 2 will quit and 1 will open on blank i think but if you set to 0 it will not have a choice and therefore ask for all 3, and fixing your accidental mouse click, have fun now!

I still have a problem with this “closing multiple tabs in FF3″ issue… I want the firefox2 behaivor back, like this:

1. I have multiple tabs open
2. I close firefox down
3. I see a warning about closing multiple tabs. I press enter and firefox closes.
4. I open firefox again, and get a blank page or whatever home page I have configured. Ie no saved tabs.

The best I can get now is the question about if I want to save the tabs, and if I click enter the tabs are saved. But I don’t want that. i want to press enter to make the warning go away. Is this behaivor possible to get with Firefox3?
