Just download Tweak UI.
And just unmark “Show unread E-mail”
No Tweaking of the regisrty is needed.

I even uninstalled my outlook 2007 annoyed by the messages which would never go, The answer was simple. guess i have reinstall it again.

I ran into the same problem with the 1 unread email count after reinstalling XP and Microsoft Office Outlook on my PC. After several days of turmoil I found that the unread email was actually an unread email in Outlook Express from the Microsoft Team. Go figure. Note that the email was in Outlook Express and not Microsoft Office Outlook, Anyways I opened Outlook Express and marked the email as read. No more problems.

Thanks! Great work! very useful! One small question though. There are 4 users on our XP at home and only one user got this “unread mail” tag although the other users too have enough and more unread messages. Secondly, the unread message was for a yahoo mail account. Could you please explain this. Thanks once again!

Thanks for the post.

I have one question though: i recently created a Live ID account and then i deleted it (i only needed it to test something). But Windows keeps showing that e-mail on logon (with the “1 unread email” message).

Where is Windows getting that information, since I deleted ths account? Where is this info stored in my computer and how do i remove it?
