Uninstall KB940510 to Disable SL07-001 and SL07-006 Vista Exploit/Crack Detection
Accidentally or Windows Update automatically download and install KB940510 Update for Windows Vista? The KB 940510 update installs a detector or sniffer that scans through the Windows Vista system if it’s been installed or tampered with activation crack or exploit to illegally bypass product activation requirement and use Vista without legitimate license or product key.
If indeed you’re using a detectable activation cracks or exploits, such as Paradox OEM BIOS Emulator and TimerStop grace period stopper, KB940150 patch will detect the cracks and display a message that activation exploit has been found on the system. Two commonly found exploits are SL07-001 or other SL07-006.
If you have accidentally install KB940510, or let Automatic Updates install the update without knowledge, Microsoft doesn’t allow you to easily uninstall or remove KB940510 update (in fact, it may be one time check or detection on the existence of activation exploits only). For whatever reason, KB940510 has proved to be no harm (deactivation of Vista), yet, but if you want to be safe, and just found out that the KB940510 has been installed, knowingly or unknowingly, AND, you HAVEN’T restart the computer, here’s a trick submitted by VistaMe to effectively remove and uninstall the KB940510 without trace.
After installing Vista KB940510 and BEFORE restarting the computer (You can check if the KB 940510 is installed or not from Install Updates list), search for all “wgaer_m*” files using Advanced Search. Make sure that you select all local drives or everywhere as searched location, and check the option to include non-indexed, hidden, and system files. You will likely see one or two files starting with wgaer_m. Delete all files found and then restart the computer. All detection will be done, and Vista computer will be working as per normal.

Somehow, I installed SP1 and it works! I checked for “wgaer_m” and found nothing, am I lucky, or is there a reason?

The message appeared to me too.Unfortunately I restarted the pc after installation of update.
But my tymer isn’t working,it sign that I have a windows certificate software,with a legal license.
What does it mean?
I haven’t to scare myself?

i opened the system32 folder and typed wgaer_m.exe in the search box. It popped up and i renamed it, this was done after i restarted though, so im not sure how well its gona work. hopefully it fixes it

hello , thnaks for the advice
, i did install the KB940510 update and reset my computer , i ovcourse got the same messgage.
i then used system restore an undid updates, after this wgaer_m.exe did not run in task mangener. but i still have the wgaer_m.exe file in system32. i was able to delete it with out renaming it?.
i now have no trace of wgaer_m.exe and can not find it on a search.

This scared me also, but I easily solved it by doing a system restore before restarting my system.
I used TimerStop to hack vista, going into command prompt window and typing slmgr -dlv I see that the time left on my hacked vista is still 30 days. This was done after restarting the system.
Easy fix. Also, as mentioned above, the file wgaer_m can be renamed and then deleted to fix problem.

Windows system restore can be your friend for any updates installed, which may have had a detrimental affect on your systems behaviour

i don’t think i can get rid of the “wgaer_m” now can anybody help?? i dont see it in in taks manager. I just found out about KB940510 today and pc has been reputed many times. if no help I just have to start again! and be more careful next time

omg, I just got this update and got scared when it told me it might disable my software. I tried to delete the wgaer_m file, but it required permission. So I renamed it (which actually worked) and then was able to delete it! I also ended the process on Task manager before restarting.
(I haven’t restarted yet, if this works, then I’ll post again…)

Just rename wgaer_m.exe to something else. This worked for me, but I did it before rebooting, and did not check the box from the popup. Use Task manager to find the wgaer_m.exe loction. If you kill the proccess it pops rightback up. So just rename the file.

I had Paradox installed and while the computer was running deleted the registry key and the “royal.sys” file and without restarting installed KB940510. It apparently did its thing – found an “activated” system without any hacks and went to sleep.
When I rebooted my system was no longer activated but SURPRISE SURPRISE I could re-install Paradox again – that was a couple of weeks ago now BUT it doesn’t work with SP1.

When somebody I knew accidentally installed the patch, a message popped up saying that their Vista was hooky.
What they did, was to go to task manager, select the process and right-click, then choose “go to process”, then end it.
Their grace period is still at 30 days.

I’ve used the timerstop.sys crack, and accidentaly installed KB940510. My activation garce period is now going down. If I reinstall the crack timerstop.sys, will everything still work fine.
