KB940510 Anti Grace Timer and OEM BIOS Vista Activation Crack Detector Released
As promised by Microsoft (although Microsoft supposed to include it in Vista SP1), the update to detect activation exploits that commonly used by hackers and pirates to bypass and crack activation in Windows Vista has been released via Windows Update as Important Update. The anti-crack update, KB940510, will install a detector or sniffer on Vista system to detect Grace Timer exploit and OEM BIOS activation crack and bypass method which allow users to use Vista indefinitely without license without product key and without payment to Microsoft.
KB940510 describes the update that is installed on Vista system “enables Windows Vista to detect activation exploits that bypass product activation and that interfere with usual Windows operation. An exploit is a form of software that replaces or modifies authentic Windows components. When exploits are present on a system, it indicates that a software or hardware vendor may have tampered with genuine Windows to enable the sale of counterfeit software. Therefore, the security and the privacy of the computer are put at risk. After this update is installed, you will know if exploits are present on the system.”
Thus, the KB940510 is for ‘detection’ purpose, and Microsoft won’t forcefully remove the exploit if found. Thus, even if you’re using activation crack to bypass activation requirement, and get detected, you probably still can continue using Windows Vista as normal by ignoring the “Windows must be repaired” warning message about activation exploit software found by Windows Software Licensing module (Note: Some users reported that Windows Vista has been deactivated once detected with exploit or crack).
Beside, Microsoft is kind enough to release KB940510 as an important update, thus WU will automatically install KB 940510 is users turn on “Automatic Updates” option. However, if users manually updating, users can ignore and hide the 3.0 MB update if they don’t want to install it. To do so, simply open “Windows Updates”, check for updates if no updates been offered or you cannot see KB940510. Then click on “View available updates”, right click on “Update for Windows Vista (KB940510)” and then select “Hide update”.
But the effectiveness of KB940510 in detecting the cracks used to activate Vista is in doubt. There are reports of continue working and successful activation of Vista based on both “SoftMod” (primarily those based on Vista Loader) and “HardMod” (physically mod BIOS to add in required SLIC) methods. Currently on Paradox OEM BIOS emulator and Timer Stop grace period exploit is detected. Which means KB940510 detector still cannot detects two increasingly popular activation hacks, leaving open can of worms.
If you have installed KB940510, but haven’t restart your PC, you can remove the update.
Microsoft re-released KB940510 anti-crack detector on May 6, 2008 to all language locales, including English version who chose to hide the update previously.

I guess it’s pretty useless to uninstall it. Microsoft may force install in future anyway. Just move on to better bypass method.

I am not sure which crack I am using… I started using the 2099 timerstop krak, but later I deleted that one and the krak I have now tells VistShit I have an Asus motherboard. Which I do, actually, but I have told the krak that I either have a Biostar board or an unknown board… There are something like 30 choices in the menu for OEM.
At one point, my activation failed, and re-running the krak did not work: until I unloaded it and reloaded it.
So right now I have 0 VistShit security Downdates, ALL of the actual updates, PLUS Service pack rc1.
I am not really worried, cos Microsoft is maybe 500 or so individuals working to try to block the leak of a Holland DYKE with their pinkies, versus THE WORLD. How many people in the world use computers? At least Billions, and therefore there are by logic at least 500,000 to 1,000,000 computer programmers that HAPPILY use their knowledge to crack the worst OS that has ever been made, and I mean that in some ways Windows MILLENNIUM edition is better.
Where we need help, is in the department of XP: Microsoft was forced to continue making XP, but they way they are sleazing and SLIMING their way around that is by blocking the development of XP DRIVERS for new systems.
Microsoft can Kiss My Ass- I will NEVER EVER pay for VistShit and I will always use Ultimate Edition and I will always get ALL the upgrades I need - If I WANT them.
Nothing ever stopped me from getting what I needed for XP, and nothing will ever will, for any shitty Microsoft OS.

After installing this upgrade and before restarting the computer, search for files named “wgaer_m*”. You will find two files. Delete them and reboot. You will be “upgraded” and everythig will be working as usual…

This update ruins PunkBuster, at least in the Steam version of COD4. Couldn’t play online at ALL until I system restored to the point before this stupid update.

Re-Activated!
Ok kb940510 took out my spare Vista machine!
But firefox was my default browser, so I did the following in Firefox:
File->Open (I Navigated to where I had the paradox crack on a flash drive) OEMTool.exe and save it.
Then use File->Open to copy the other files to that location,(desktop) drag & drop form the file navigation window.
Then run OEMTool.exe from Tools->Downloads
This would have worked as well from CMD.EXE?
After the reboot
File->Open File (navigate to \windows\system32\) cmd.exe
Save it, launch it from Tools->Downloads
At the CMD prompt copy asus.XRM-MS to C:\
Run the below (cribbed from the net) in a BAT file from a flash drive or type it in.
call slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\asus.xrm-ms
call slmgr.vbs -ipk 6F2D7-2PCG6-YQQTB-FWK9V-932CC
call slmgr -ato
Reboot; Vista is yours again!
Turned off AutoUpdate and smile!

Note!
Prior to the above I ran tweakUAC.exe ( http://www.tweak-uac.com/ )
and turned off UAC!
:o)
