You can find more information out on film scanners at:

http://www.film-scanners.co.uk

And David, you can't scan with a printer, but you can buy some flat bed scanners which can scan your photos in.

If you just want to print colour photos in black and white, go to print properties and choose black and white in one of the menus there :)

I have many 35 MM negatives. Is there a way to convert these to black/white photographs using a computer printer?

35mm negative is 24mmx36mm this equals 1.34 square inches. At 3600dpi as this thing claims, it should be closer to 17 megapixels, not 5. Also, what the heck is SMOS?

I just saw this post forgive the lateness. I faced the same issue of digitizing all the old family negatives. I was able to get good results by buying a Light Box, Using the close up attachemnt to my Canon Powershot, cutting a hole in the bottom of a Folgers Coffee can for the attachment. Cut black paper for a mask to the negative size. Take the picture and then invert the colors on the computer.
I did not have as good a result attempting to do slides using this setup bu it gave me serviceable B & W results.

From the looks of it (and geeks.com has it rather cheap) it only scans 35 mm. Is there a cheap scanner than scans older negatives. Up to maybe 4x6 or so. Trying to digitize my grandparents and further... photos and some are negative formats I don't recognize. I know some. 120, 126, 110, disk. But some are formats I've never seen before. One that looks like 35 mm, but holes on one side like 126. (all b/w film) or maybe something I can innovate and stick on top of a scanner that does scan negatives, but not that large a format.

The model # for the scanner is " VuPoint FS-C1-VP ". This should make it easier to locate.

Skymall.com has had these for a few months. They also have one for prints. The slide version is about $100, the print version is about $150. Skymall is the catalog that is in most American airplanes.
