I faced the same issue of digitizing all the old family negatives. I was able to get good results by buying a Light Box, Using the close up attachemnt to my Canon Powershot, cutting a hole in the bottom of a Folgers Coffee can for the attachment. Cut black paper for a mask to the negative size. Take the picture and then invert the colors on the computer. I did not have as good a result attempting to do slides using this setup bu it gave me serviceable B & W results. I just saw this post forgive the lateness. Is there a cheap scanner than scans older negatives. Up to maybe 4x6 or so. Trying to digitize my grandparents and further... photos and some are negative formats I don't recognize. I know some. 120, 126, 110, disk. But some are formats I've never seen before. One that looks like 35 mm, but holes on one side like 126. (all b/w film) or maybe something I can innovate and stick on top of a scanner that does scan negatives, but not that large a format.
