That’s fine and dandy for people who were not smart enough to figure that one out on their own. The one that we really need back is the Folder button. How do you get that back? I haven’t been smart enough to find that one.

I wish companies would quit trying to fix something that isn’t broken. Microsoft has the dumbest engineers around. How stupid do you have to be to create the “Hide Extension” idea. That is by far the biggest reason viruses get spread. The average person does not realize the VBS is hidden when they see Picture.jpg when extensions are hidden.

Hi. I had the same problem of not being able to hide the menu bar, but I found this. It seems to be the only solution and also the correct one. I don’t know the reason for the problem though.

I have the same problem as Howard. I also tried your method Mikel, but the classic menus wouldn’t disappear. Are there any other suggestions?

Go to Tools->Folder Options, General, and click on Show preview and filters.

Yes, despite the misleading name, this will make the toolbar auto hide again.

I temporarily turned on the classic menu, using the method described. Now, I cannot turn it off using Organize -> Layout -> Uncheck Menu Bar. Is there a way to force the classic menu to go away, some registry hack or something? Does anyone know the proper key to create/set? Thanks, all.

Another dead simple way is just go to Control Panel > Folder Options > General (tab) > Tasks (Section) > Use Classic Windows Folders (Option).
