Disable and Remove Yahoo! Messenger 9 Ads

Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 in beta version is available for free public download to install and use. As with any previous versions of Yahoo Messenger, there are various ads blocks display advertisements in messenger or message and chat windows. The banner ad and text ad units can be disabled or turned off by using a simple registry hack similar to trick used to remove ads on Yahoo Messenger 8 and version 7.

To remove and disable ads display on Yahoo Messenger 9, follow the trick below:

  1. Run Registry Editor (regedit.exe).
  2. Navigate to the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\pager\Locale

  3. In the right pane, locate a value named Enable Messenger Ad with default value as 1. Set the value to 0.
  4. Restart Yahoo! Messenger 9.0.

The ads will be disappeared from Yahoo Messenger after restarting.

    i don’t understand why the ad keeps reappearing after restart. the exe has the same hash with the cracked one, but i have to overwrite it with the cracked one for the ad to no longer appear.

    what’s the logic for that?

    and as a request, if it’s not that hard to remove that plug-in bar that i was talking about, i’m sure a lot of people would apreciate it if you would make an *exe without it, just as an alternative for those of us that are not using plug-ins.

    dedndave, we are all waiting for you to do your magic :)

    also, removing that ugly “Plug-ins – Add Plug-ins” bar would be nice.
