Disable and Remove Yahoo! Messenger 9 Ads
Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 in beta version is available for free public download to install and use. As with any previous versions of Yahoo Messenger, there are various ads blocks display advertisements in messenger or message and chat windows. The banner ad and text ad units can be disabled or turned off by using a simple registry hack similar to trick used to remove ads on Yahoo Messenger 8 and version 7.
To remove and disable ads display on Yahoo Messenger 9, follow the trick below:
- Run Registry Editor (regedit.exe).
- Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\pager\Locale
- In the right pane, locate a value named Enable Messenger Ad with default value as 1. Set the value to 0.
- Restart Yahoo! Messenger 9.0.
The ads will be disappeared from Yahoo Messenger after restarting.

Dedndave,so glad you’re back and thanks for the patch! By the way I have a request, can you make a patch that disables those pesky Plug ins and add plugins right above the ad space, those are unnecessary and take up too much room. Thanks please let me know if its possible.

The crack does remove the ads, but it also disable video/voice chat

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I have been away so long. I have been learning the Win32 API – a lot to learn – lol. Here is the link for the patched exe file for version 10.0.0.542. This patch removes ONLY the main window ad. For those who would like to patch their own files, here is the offset and data:

it also has the install for messenger version 9.0.0.2162, but the ad remover that’s in the archive works for most versions out there.If not, you can install version 9.0.0.2162, cause the newer ones are basically the same.

Lets make this simple please! Need a patched Yahoo Messenger 10.0.0.542 US. Please make it happen and post here. Past tricks/patches DO NOT WORK! If otherwise, please post the solution/patch here. Thank you very much. The ads are driving all of us crazy.

alright I have the newest version of yahoo Messenger I installed it today its october 1st 2009….and yes it works…simple and easy directions to follow……..just use your common sense a bit and you should be fine

editing the hosts file DOES work . . . but yahoo’s sms text messaging will no longer function. same goes if you try the new “online chat” function thru yahoo mail it also will not work.
guess i will put up with the crappy yahoo spam ads in order to preserve sms capabilities.

Yes, please develop the 525 patched yahoomessenger.exe, and if possible as my suggestion, please REMOVE the Plugin buttons at the bottom of the list above the ads, the official hide version just makes it less visible, but those buttons are just like an ad, obtrusive and unnecessary PLEASE MAKE THIS CHANGE, thanks. And of course any of the other ads for webcamming filesharing and just in case they add back the text ad below the text entry field in a message window would also make it so any future patches of future builds will be simpler. Thanks!

I can only find Yahoo OFFICIAL Beta 10.0.0.525 and not the 553 as mentioned right below me. Can anyone please post it on megaupload or rapidshare or any other file storage site? Thanks, and does the most recent past for earlier builds work on this version? Let me know please and keep up the good work for those making patches thanks. The most ideal would be an already modified YahooMessenger.exe ready made, thanks!

Thanks to legman for chat/room banner remover, it is work.. and many thanks to dedndave now ad at the bottom of YM is gone…
