Edimax Unveiled Wireless 802.11n USB Adapter with MIMO Technology
Edimax has just unveiled a new Wireless 802.11n USB adapter for consumer market. Known as EW-7718Un, it is complies with 802.11n draft 2.0 standard. As you all aware, 802.11n is capable to scale the transmission rate up to six times more than existing famous 802.11a/b/g wireless technology. Even though there are already many products with 802.11n compliance in the market, but its tiny and portable design has able to differentiate itself from others in this competitive environment. Normal 802.11n network routers are generally available in box or dongle type but Edimax has able to shrink it down to be exactly the size of an USB thumb drive.

Its compact design doesn’t compromise with performance, EW-7718Un is able to support throughput of up to 300Mbps with MIMO (Multiple In Multiple Out) technology. This is just a theoretical PHY rate estimation and the actual performance is subjected to how well all the software optimization as well as environment may affect. Typically, 75Mbps is possible in real usage which is sufficient for HD (High Definition ) media streaming. Besides, it has some advanced security encryption features such as 64/128-bit WEP, WPA and WPA2 for data security protection. The product is running at 2.4GHz frequency span and so it is backward compatible with previous 802.11b/g. Good thing is, it is compatible with Windows OS (Operating System) ranging from Windows 2000, XP and even Vista.
