Change Windows XP and Vista Desktop Icons into Smaller List View
Even wonder how you can reduce the icons’ size on desktop in Windows XP and Vista OS (Operating System)? I don’t mean to change the desktop resolution but this is another simple yet good way of reducing the size of icons without significantly change the font of all the display characters. Known as Deskview, this tiny utility tool will able to accomplish the task with simple setup.
This is quite useful especially when you have a lot of icons scattered around your desktop. Of course the best solution is to try to categorize and group them in proper folder and just left those frequently access files on the desktop. But if you think your desktop space is still insufficient after clearing most of them, then this could be the right solution for you.
What you need to do is just download deskview.zip, extract and then double click on the deskview.exe executable file. Immediate after that, your icons display will switch from normal mode to small icon. Just repeat the same step, double click on it to switch the icons back to normal mode. Alternatively, you can put the executable file under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder in order to execute it automatically when you startup your computer. This utility tool also work for Windows Vista. However, the scaling down percentage is less obvious as compared to what you can do in Windows XP as shown on the picture above.

No extra software required…
1) Just add the “Desktop” Toolbar to the Taskbar,
2) Then turn off all desktop icons.
You end up with your beautiful desktop background photo uncluttered, and a nice list of desktop icons out of the way in the Taskbar.
Sweet!
