64-bit (x64) Windows Vista Official Direct Download Links

64-bit (x64) Windows Vista does not included in the retail package CD/DVD media by default, except Windows Vista Ultimate edition software DVD that packaged with both 32-bit and 64-bit code. Vista 64-bit software media must be ordered online, incurring a shipping and handling fee.

But similar to Vista 32-bit (x86) edition, Microsoft does provide official download links for 64-bit edition of Windows Vista through its delivery partner Digital River Inc which handles sales for Windows Marketplace. So there is no need to afraid of infecting spyware, adware, virus or Trojan when downloading from BitTorrent or P2P networks, and can have assurance and guarantee that the downloaded copy of Vista is clean, original, not modified, not changed, untouched and not subjected to fake copy.

Direct Download Links for x64 Windows Vista

install.wim
boot.wim
X13-49121.exe

The downloaded files is in .WIM extension, a Windows Imaging Format Archive. By executing X13-49121.exe, users can run setup to install Vista 64-bit edition. To burn the 64-bit Vista code to DVD, here’s the guide to convert the .WIN files and make bootable .ISO DVD image, or follow illustrate guide using vLite. Just change the X13-49120.exe (for 32bit Vista) to X13-49121.exe will do, and download the etfsboot.com to put into “boot” directory.

Note that the downloaded 64-bit Vista code can be activated with retail product key. For OEM edition of Vista product key, which printed on a COA sticker on your laptop, notebook or desktop computer from brands such as Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo, Fujitsu, Toshiba, Sony, Dell, LG and etc, usually only 32-bit or 64-bit Vista is provided on request. You will need to contact the manufacturer for conversion from 32-bit to 64-bit Vista, although the chance to get any help is slim.

If you want to download 32-bit edition of Vista, here’s the direct download links for x86 Vista.

hey, i found a fix for the “Denied” page!!

    example (”http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/01/21305682-3473582–NOA/msvista/pub/Vista_WIM/X64/install.wim”)
    for the install.wim,

just change this part (”/21305682-3473582–NOA/”) to anything else (leave the slashes “/” though!) to like even (”/2/”) or (”/37423/”) or whatever the hell u want and it’ll let u download!….i did it on accident! thought i’d post and let everyone else know!

Looks like those links are dead now. Getting the message “Denied” when I click on them. Hopefully there is a new link for the integrated SP1!

Did the obvious and did some searches, some recommendations to use third party boot managers in preference to the MS offering but if using MS then must install 32bit first and then 64 bit as the 64 bit boot manager will recognise both 32 and 64 bit OS.

I have read that an OEM key in some cases will work, wanted to check before contacting the retailer for a 64 bit key in what will probably be a fruitless exercise. :)
The processor will start in 32 bit legacy mode and switch to 64 bit mode when instructed so yes could work as a dual boot but thought that I would seek input from anyone else that may have done it in case there are any wrinkles…
X13-49121.exe does extract and build the folders but have not built an iso as yet to see if it will boot OK.

    Hello,

An OEM key for 32 bit Vista will not work for x64 Vista. I have Vista on a laptop and tried the same key for the x64 version and it won’t work. I’ve read online that only retail copies of Vista keys can install x86 or x64. I’m not sure if upgrade keys work.

I’m not sure if you can dual boot with 32/64 OS’s. When you install 32 bit versions, your system reads as a 32 bit system even if you have an x64 processor. So I am not sure how that would work but since you would be dual booting, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

X13-49120.exe will extract Vista only on a 32 bit system.

X13-49121.exe will only extract vista on a 64 bit system. It won’t run on x86 XP or Vista.

In order to check whether my OEM supplied Key will work for a 64bit install I am considering installing as a dual boot with the existing 32 vendor (Acer) install. It does look like Acer have 64 bit drivers for download.
Is dual boot possible with two Vista installs?
If so, is there any advantage to using the X13-49120.exe rather than X13-49121.exe to build the Install file set? 32/64 bit boot compatibility perhaps, I would guess not as if bought off the shelf then not an option. :)

And thanks for the efforts being made here to bring this information to the masses. :)

freaz = The 32 bit keys are the same for 64Bit.

Sacs = Any 32bit OS will report it as being x86 in the device manager. If you know you have a x64 processor, it will work.

yoyoo = It’s legal I guess if you have a valid Vista x86 key. It just saves the cost of the download media shipping fees. If you bought a laptop with vista pre-installed, then you have only a recover cd. This method allows a full install without manufacturer bloat added.

Download the x64 boot.wim and install.com but get the X13-49120.exe file from the x32 page. Make sure all of the files are in the same directory then run X13-49120.exe.

Once extraction is complete, use vlite to load the directory. Select the version you want to create a disk for, EG; Home Basic, Premium, Ultimate ect. Make sure to select the create bootable distro is checked. Then once you have the finished ISO, use the free program IMGBurn to burn the ISO to DVD.

64 bit X13-49121.exe has to be run from a 64 bit environment, like vmware xp 64 bit virtual ws, and a 64 bit CPU as well. :)

    Hi all,

I have tried to create a custom Vista 64 Bit Bootable CD with the procedures provided by you. Everything has been done exactly as specified. I have AMD 939 Athlon 64 X2-4200 CPU. No errors have been during the process of creating a boot CD.

But, after burning the image file, I am not able to boot through my CD. I do not know what is the cause. Can you specify what may be wrong.

In the VISTA CPU requirements it is given that the CPU should state as x64. I tested this in a 32bit XP and found it to be x86. But my CPU is AMD ATHLON 64 939 X2-4200. Whether it may be the reason?

    If so why and how?

Please anybody clarify and help with proper tips to check the system for correctness.

    Thanks.
