nice to see a IEEE member input here. I am a concerned parent, and have reserached this for a year or so, and a fewthins seem clear to me in a very cintroversial field-

1)-the dismissive, "we are certain" attitude that often accompanies wrong ideas seems totally on the side of the "there is no harm" crowd--that alone makes me concerned-

2)-there have been many studies that show problems with health and non-ionizing RF--the majority of non industry studies. It is false to say this is untrue. Many have shown apparent connections between cell phones, for example, and health issues, incl cancer. These are reported differently in different places--but there are a lot of studies out there showing problems--

3) wifi has never been tested for safety as a consumer product, nor was the cell phone. Yet, warnings and concerns are commonplace. For example:

-Germany has advised their citizens to avoid WiFi when possible.

-Germany, Austria and Belgium have all advised schools against installing WiFi networks

-WiFi is being removed from some public schools in England, in part due to complaints of health concerns from teachers, and the head of the teachers union their has called for a moratorium on WiFi in schools until safety issues are properly addressed.

-Five public libraries in Paris have removed their wireless network due to health concerns

-a Canadian University is refusing to put in WiFi due to lack of research proving safety

-An Austrian head of environmental health and medicine is considering a WiFi ban in schools, calling the technology "dangerous", and saying he would immediately remove his own child from any school that had WiFi.

-Perhaps most significantly, as of late 2007, the EEU (European Environmental Union), one of the world’s top environmental agencies, is calling for immediate action to reduce exposure to radiation from Wi-Fi, mobile phones and their masts. It suggests that delay could lead to a health crisis similar to those caused by asbestos, smoking, and leaded gasoline.

One can have a position on either side, but to be dismissive about all the concern is not really a valid position, IMO. Too many disagree to have it seen as a non-issue.

There is more than enough reason, as well, IMO, to apply the precautionary principle here, and this means no wifi sold or allowed in public air space (incl residences that radiate into others space) until safety testing is done.

Cheers-

Unfortunately, you are wrong on this matter, and should be very cautious with such absolute statements as things in the research field are actually progressing very quickly. I am an IEEE member, have worked in microwave research, and know the existing research quite well, for the last 20 years.

Mobile phone have complex biological effects on humans, can create doublestrand DNA breaks in cells, other genotoxic effects, breaks in the blood/brain barrier, effects on calsium/magnesium/zinc, harm myelin sheets in the brain, acetylcholine, melatonin, several key proteins/HSP27 (heat shock protein), mast cells etc.

Leading Swedish researchers at Karolinska and Orebro Hospital know about this, came very recently to the conclusion that normal cell phone use over 10 years raises glioma risk 2-4 x.

Finally, numerous leading researchers, neurosurgeons and medical doctors have been asking for a preemptive approach with microwave devices in numerous resolutions (Benevento, Salzburg, Freiburger etc). Among people asking for a cautionary/preemptive approach are Dr. G. Khurana, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Dr. Lennart Hardell, Dr. Olle Johansson, Dr. Henry Lai, Dr. Narendra Singh, Sir William Stewart, head of UK Health Protection Agency and hundreds of others.

Without any need for panic, this matter is real. Unfortunately, microwave technologies (whether cell phones, bluetooth, Dect phones etc) next to ones head are not safe, to the contrary. Unfortunately, even WIFI technologies are not safe, have also complex genotoxic, nervous and immune system effects. Leading researchers in the field agree that preemptive approach should be used especially around children (remember, you were once a child).

"Most of you know that an usage of mobile phones can harm your health by increase the risk of brain tumor."

Wrong wrong and once again WRONG!. There have benn hundreds of scientific studies (some over 20 years now) and there is no concrete evidence that anything WiFi (Cell phone or other consumer sold products) will cause any tumors.

I suggest you read up on it. See here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_phone_radiation_and_health

and Here: http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/2000/600_phone.html

please stop spreading FUD about the brain tumor and RF issues. Leave that to the Media as they do such a great job of providing "facts" without backing them up in the first place.
