Disable WordPress 2.3 Core and Plugins Update Check and Notification
WordPress 2.3 has added a new feature which automatically check if any update is available for the plugins installed and used in the WordPress blog. The feature also check for updates of WordPress core. WordPress 2.3 does not include an option in preference to disable core and/or plugin update checking. It’s easy to implement, and likely to be added in the next WordPress release. However, if you need to disable update checks for WordPress core and installed plugins now, there are plugins that allow you to do so.

You may want to disable WordPress core and plugins updates check for privacy concern, as each check will send over the installed plug-ins and the versions info on your blog over to WordPress server. However, it’s a minor issue. Most likely you will want to disable the automatic update check and notifications if you want too many blogs that is on the same version and use the same plugins, thus no need the feature to active in all blogs. Beside, it’s also possible that you purposely stay on the older WordPress version, and use an older plugin for compatibility and doesn’t want them to be upgraded.

Seeing the Wordpress needs updated message is not something a client really needs to see, as they can’t update their wordpress normally anyways. I think it could be very handy to remove the stuff that gets in the way sometimes.
