Panasonic Promotes HD-PLC For High Definition Media Streaming
Matsushita Electric, or better known as Panasonic brand name is forming a new alliance in promoting the companies’ HD-PLC (High Definition Power Line Communication technology). Power Line Communication technology has been in the market for a while and is famous for its high bandwidth data transfer especially targeted for LAN (Local Area Network) in the digital home. Power Line communication utilizes the existing power cable in your home for stable data transmission. It also means that you don’t have to run a new network cable but instead, just plug your Ethernet devices into the power socket for internet connection. HD-PLC is a new enhancement over current standard by creating even more stable and high bandwidth medium for HD (High Definition) video and audio streaming.
This technology employs Wavelet OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency-division multiplexing) modulation scheme that ensures maximum data rate of 190Mbps to cater for multiple video and audio streaming simultaneously. A single high definition video streaming may consume not more than 25 Mbps and you can imagine how many parallel media files that you can share with the rest in the home without compromising user’s visual experience.
The company is hoping to attract more devices’ manufacturers to join the alliance so that the effort of co-promoting this new standard could be continued. The goal is to eventually help to define HD-PLC as a new industry’s standard for the rest to follow in the design and compatibility. Some of these HD-PLC compliance modules can be built directly into media player and digital TV for consumer electronics market.
