The new Zune that able to share music files and other media wirelessly with other Zune owners will sport the “squircle” Zune Control Pad, an useful touch-sensitive button for navigating on the device.

“Twenty years ago we bet the company on an integrated productivity suite of word processing, spreadsheets and presentations, and we changed the way people work,” said Bill Gates, Microsoft’s chairman. “Today we’re making big bets on games, music, video and connecting these entertainment experiences to help change the way people play.”

Other major improvement in the new Zune 2 are the wireless syncing and a new DRM-free music store, aiming to enhance your music-style experience.

“For something we pulled together in six months, we are very pleased with the satisfaction we got,” said Bill Gates in an interview Tuesday. “The satisfaction for the device was superhigh. The satisfaction on the software actually is where we’d expect to see a huge uptick this year. It was just so-so on the software side.”

The new Zune 80GB hard-drive model will cost for $249 while the ultra-compact flash-based Zune 4GB and 8GB models cost for $149 and $199.99, respectively.
