Media Player Classic (MPC) Optimized for Vista Codec Package Free Download

This version of Media Player Classic (MPC) is a personal edition customized and made by developer of Vista Codec Package (VCP), Shark007, as an addon tool to Vista Codec Package. It’s based on original Media Player Classic version 6.4.9 which is a compact free software media player for Microsoft Windows developed by Gabest, and often been cited as an alternative mediaplayer for Windows Media Player.

The customized MPC package is optimized for Windows Vista, and the player can play DVDs in Vista with Aero Glass interface enabled, and can playback video without breaking the Aero theme. The MPC will also display streaming RealMedia content once RAM file extension is associated to it. The VCP author has also turned off all internal codecs in MPC, thus this MPC is distributed and acted simply as a media player. Other codec pack makers distribute MPC with their codecs package and have almost all internal codecs turned on, thus indirectly causing and making up for the poorly functioning releases.

During installation, setup installer will also creates a shortcut in the QuickLaunch bar on taskbar. No file association is set, but the filetype associations can be easily configured and set from within the MPC player (Under Formats of Options menu) so that the file format you prefer will always open using MPC. Beside, this version also disables Vista’s screensaver and power off settings while watching a video. Also in this version, the internal AVI splitter is enabled to allow viewing of broken and incomplete AVI files.

Note that as this release is design as an addon to Vista Codec Package, the shortcuts to the MPC will be added to the ‘Common Tools’ folder under ‘VistaCodecs’ on the Start Menu. And the program files will be installed to the VistaCodecPack subdirectories too. However, the MPC installation is uninstallable as usual as other regular Media Player Classic installed through the Windows Interface (Add and Remove Programs / Uninstall Programs in Vista).
