So, let me get this straight... I myself create a NEW text document on the desktop, and for argument sake start to write a small advert ready for putting on a generic auction website. I then decide to copy/move this text document to my pen drive to finishing writing at work... and it takes over 1 minute to copy/move said file... Vista is checking the file for DRM? ... Of a text file, which I created? ... Where the ***k do they get off? Windows XP didn't even flash up any dialogue boxes, it was just DONE! Thank you! Oh and another thing... Where the f**k has the searching facility gone? I don't mean the shitty pansy 'lets look for your files' bo***cks which they've now added, but the real search where you can find every .JPG file and move/copy the WHOLE LOT to another folder! [/rant]

hmmm, i had the same issue with terribly slow transfer rates on a lan between vista and xp, and after many hours spent trying all these solutions, i finally found what was wrong:
mcAfee anti-virus (duh!)
when i turned it off, transfer rates jumped from a miserable 100 kB/s to 9 MB/s !!

So Did you ever consider the layers of DRM protection that have been added to Vista? Imagine all that extra data sniffing and inspection that goes on to make sure you not Stealing someones IP(Intellectual Property). You know that Vista has over a dozen checks that it does to make sure that if you are transferring a DRM file it will be corrupted in the process. So yes transfers of large and medium sized files from vista to anything will be significantly slower then XPx64 and only slightly better then XPx86. That improved TCPTP stack isn't for speed it's to compensate for the extra DRM c-rap that Vista does.
