I found a fix for this that worked for me.

Open Regedit and navigate to following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

If the key is empty:
Right-click on key and go to Permissions -> Advanced -> Chooce your user account and hit Edit. Then change all permissions to Allow.

Restart computer.

Doesn’t work for me, still no sound.
Need an MP3 or MP4 sound file as that’s the latest encoding, Adobe link doesn’t work though.
Just downloaded flash 10, shockwave 11, still no joy

Excuse me, REdlandter….but how I can get back the WMDAUD.DRV
and reisntall it? Im so frustrated, nothing works for me….hope this can give me my sound back.

Let me describe what I did to fix the lost FLash Player’s audio. Before finding the solution, I had tried every trick in the book and those offered on the forums to no avail:

- wavemapper”=”msacm32.drv (yes, I had it in my registry)
-”Allow third-party Flash content to store data on your computer” checkbox was checked by default
- Cleaned out the old downloaded caches in Flash by running CCLEANER
- Uninstalled FLASH 10 and reinstalled it (several times)

Nothing worked! Then by chance while looking in the registry and double-checking each value against the DLL and DRV files in SYSTEM32, I saw that I missed WMDAUD.DRV in the SYSTEM32 folder (which explained why I kept hearing my computer beep through its own internal sound device rather through the speakers via Windows wave sound). I didn’t know why the WMDAUD.DRV was deleted though it was protected. Anyway, I copied it back, rebooted my system and the FLASH audio came back on every Webcast.

I experience this problem as well. What finally solved it for me was to delete the preferences for Macromedia – not sure how you go about doing this in the windows world (maybe the CCleaner) in the Mac world it is simple.

*user*/library/preferences/macromedia

I deleted the entire folder. Restarted my browsers.

Bingo! Audio is back. It was affecting Firefox as well – problem solved there as well.

I had no sound on YouTube for two days…..it drove me nuts!!!! I downloaded all of the requirements….to no avail…..still no sound.
Today I LOOKED AT MY OWN SOUND ON THE YOUTUBE, AND IT WAS ALL THE WAY DOWN. I PULLED IT (the volume in youtube) UP, AND SURE ENOUGH, IT WORKED….
The sound worked all this time,,,I had not clue why the sound volume was down…..but this was the only thing that was wrong, in my case….I sympathys with those who cannot have sound…when the video is so clear…

Changing the Adobe Flash settings didn’t help me and neither did using K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool as recommended on other sites. BUT, your CCleaner fix *did* work! Thanks so much!

(I am using Windows XP Home Edition, Internet Explorer 7.0, and Adobe Flash Player 10.)

open up control panel, double click on speaker icon, at the top you will see some tabs click on sounds..choose WINDOWS DEFAULT SCHEME…you don’t need to save the one you are using….then click on Volume tab at the top put a check mark where it says PLACE VOLUME ICON IN TASKBAR….now click on AUDIO choose the option for your sound card…now click VOICE at the top choose the same option for sound card click apply sound should come back immediately…I loose sound every time I install Quick Time Player hopes this works for you. PS Don’t get suckered into buying a REGISTRY CLEANER

Nice. I was having this problem on youtube itself. In both firefox and IE. Using vista OS.
This worked for me – Delete all websites button under “website storage settings”
