Solution to Fix Youtube or Other Embedded Flash Video No Sound in External Websites
A video plays fine and properly when played directly in originating video sharing and hosting sites Youtube, MetaCafe, Google Video, CNet Videos, DailyMotion, iFilm, and Revver themselves, complete with the sound heard nicely. However, the audio is lost and no sound is heard when the Flash video is played on another third party or external sites or blogs that embedded these Youtube and other sites’ videos, although the video still moving. The symptom happens when users computers is using Flash 8 or 9, and uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Flash Player won’t help.
Here is a simple solution to fix the problem that embedded flash video from Youtube, Google Video, Daily Motion, Revver, iFilm and Metacafe on third party websites or blogs failed to play sound and audio.
- Visit a web page with a Flash video embedded on the page.
- Click on the Flash video to activate the Flash plugin (only on SP2 or above), then right click on video to display the Flash properties menu.
- Click on “Settings” on contextual menu, then click the “Advanced…” button.
- A new web page window will launch loading Adobe – Flash Player – Manager. On the left pane, click on “Global Storage Settings Panel” link under “Flash Player Help Settings Manager” sub-section under “Table of Contents” section.
- A Adobe Flash Player Settings Manager applet will load on the right pane as a Flash object. Check (tick) the “Allow third-party Flash content to store data on your computer” checkbox so that it’s checked. The settings should be auto-save, if the setting is not saved, try to close all Internet Explorer or Firefox web browser windows and launch the Flash Manager to set the option again.
- Try to play Flash video. The sound should be played properly.
If the above guide does not solve the problem that video clips from Youtube, VideoSift, Break, Google Videos, Dailymotion, Yahoo, and other video sharing websites play no sound on external sites while audio output fine when viewing the video on video hosting sites itself. Another possible cause is that the Flash contents which is cached get corrupted or damaged, preventing audio streaming from working correctly (Most video sharing sites use Flash video technology to deliver video and audio streaming). To solve this possible corruption, try to use the following hack.
- Download and install CCleaner, a freeware system optimization and privacy tool that able to remove unused files from system, and clean traces of online activities.
- Run CCcleaner, uncheck and unselect everything that is selected in both Windows and Applications tabs for Cleaner function, except the option of Macromedia Flash Player, located under Multimedia branch in Applications tab. Ensure that all other options are unselected, or else there may be unforeseen sequences including unable to boot your computer.

- Click on “Analyze” button, and when finished, click on “Run Cleaner” button when done. This will clean and clear out the old downloaded Flash caches.
- Try to load the embedded videos again, the sound should output fine now.

I experience this problem as well. What finally solved it for me was to delete the preferences for Macromedia – not sure how you go about doing this in the windows world (maybe the CCleaner) in the Mac world it is simple.
*user*/library/preferences/macromedia
I deleted the entire folder. Restarted my browsers.
Bingo! Audio is back. It was affecting Firefox as well – problem solved there as well.

I had no sound on YouTube for two days…..it drove me nuts!!!! I downloaded all of the requirements….to no avail…..still no sound.
Today I LOOKED AT MY OWN SOUND ON THE YOUTUBE, AND IT WAS ALL THE WAY DOWN. I PULLED IT (the volume in youtube) UP, AND SURE ENOUGH, IT WORKED….
The sound worked all this time,,,I had not clue why the sound volume was down…..but this was the only thing that was wrong, in my case….I sympathys with those who cannot have sound…when the video is so clear…

Changing the Adobe Flash settings didn’t help me and neither did using K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool as recommended on other sites. BUT, your CCleaner fix *did* work! Thanks so much!
(I am using Windows XP Home Edition, Internet Explorer 7.0, and Adobe Flash Player 10.)

I dont know , whether the above response works or not. But try this tooooo….
Flash No Sound WaveMapper Solution
1. Launch Registry Editor by typing regedit at Run command.
2. Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
3. On the right pane, and check for existance of “wavemapper” registry subkey, the mail culprit causing Flash no sound. If not found, create a new String value named “wavemapper”, and give the entry value “msacm32.drv”.
If wavemapper entry is already existed, ensure that its value data is “msacm32.drv”.
Also ensure and verify that the msacm32.drv driver file is existing in C:\Windows\System32 folder. If the file is missing in that location, search for other copy of msacm32.drv in the computer, or copy that file from another system.

I had the same problem, no sound on youtube and a few other sites, tried all these suggestions, no luck. After scouring the net, I found this:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm
I downloaded the standard codec package and it worked perfectly! Try it, can’t hurt, and I couldn’t believe after 4 weeks of no sound on youtube it worked GREAT!

I had this problem (no sound) with a new pc I was preparing, turns out I plugged the sound in the wrong sound slot in the motherboard. Sounds noobish, but the fact is the speakers worked fine with mp3s. I ended up plugging the speakers in a 7.1 slot ( I guess). So you might wanna check if you don’t have your speakers in the wrong slot. (Green obv)

manishi, come back to this site and look for alink that says “Show All”, click that and some really good advice (from me) will help you get your sound back
Ultimately learn how to clear your “flash cookies” (note the word “flash” in “flash cookies”) and it will very likely resolve your issues.

I’ve been having this problem the last few weeks. I just tried both things you suggested, going to the site and running CCleaner. Still no sound.
I have XP, but I do have a program installed that gives my whole computer the Vista skins for windows and the taskbar and everything.
Contact me via my email if you have any more suggestions, because this problem is quite aggravating. I frequent quite a few sites that use flash and I would love to have SOUND again!!!!!

A member of our flash team found the problem. It has to do with mute vs. volume=0. Clearing the cookies clears the state of the cookies that mantain these values. We added some code to clear the states manually and havent had a word off the problem since.
