Solution to Fix Youtube or Other Embedded Flash Video No Sound in External Websites
A video plays fine and properly when played directly in originating video sharing and hosting sites Youtube, MetaCafe, Google Video, CNet Videos, DailyMotion, iFilm, and Revver themselves, complete with the sound heard nicely. However, the audio is lost and no sound is heard when the Flash video is played on another third party or external sites or blogs that embedded these Youtube and other sites’ videos, although the video still moving. The symptom happens when users computers is using Flash 8 or 9, and uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Flash Player won’t help.
Here is a simple solution to fix the problem that embedded flash video from Youtube, Google Video, Daily Motion, Revver, iFilm and Metacafe on third party websites or blogs failed to play sound and audio.
- Visit a web page with a Flash video embedded on the page.
- Click on the Flash video to activate the Flash plugin (only on SP2 or above), then right click on video to display the Flash properties menu.
- Click on “Settings” on contextual menu, then click the “Advanced…” button.
- A new web page window will launch loading Adobe – Flash Player – Manager. On the left pane, click on “Global Storage Settings Panel” link under “Flash Player Help Settings Manager” sub-section under “Table of Contents” section.
- A Adobe Flash Player Settings Manager applet will load on the right pane as a Flash object. Check (tick) the “Allow third-party Flash content to store data on your computer” checkbox so that it’s checked. The settings should be auto-save, if the setting is not saved, try to close all Internet Explorer or Firefox web browser windows and launch the Flash Manager to set the option again.
- Try to play Flash video. The sound should be played properly.
If the above guide does not solve the problem that video clips from Youtube, VideoSift, Break, Google Videos, Dailymotion, Yahoo, and other video sharing websites play no sound on external sites while audio output fine when viewing the video on video hosting sites itself. Another possible cause is that the Flash contents which is cached get corrupted or damaged, preventing audio streaming from working correctly (Most video sharing sites use Flash video technology to deliver video and audio streaming). To solve this possible corruption, try to use the following hack.
- Download and install CCleaner, a freeware system optimization and privacy tool that able to remove unused files from system, and clean traces of online activities.
- Run CCcleaner, uncheck and unselect everything that is selected in both Windows and Applications tabs for Cleaner function, except the option of Macromedia Flash Player, located under Multimedia branch in Applications tab. Ensure that all other options are unselected, or else there may be unforeseen sequences including unable to boot your computer.

- Click on “Analyze” button, and when finished, click on “Run Cleaner” button when done. This will clean and clear out the old downloaded Flash caches.
- Try to load the embedded videos again, the sound should output fine now.

Let me describe what I did to fix the lost FLash Player’s audio. Before finding the solution, I had tried every trick in the book and those offered on the forums to no avail:
- wavemapper”=”msacm32.drv (yes, I had it in my registry)
-”Allow third-party Flash content to store data on your computer” checkbox was checked by default
- Cleaned out the old downloaded caches in Flash by running CCLEANER
- Uninstalled FLASH 10 and reinstalled it (several times)
Nothing worked! Then by chance while looking in the registry and double-checking each value against the DLL and DRV files in SYSTEM32, I saw that I missed WMDAUD.DRV in the SYSTEM32 folder (which explained why I kept hearing my computer beep through its own internal sound device rather through the speakers via Windows wave sound). I didn’t know why the WMDAUD.DRV was deleted though it was protected. Anyway, I copied it back, rebooted my system and the FLASH audio came back on every Webcast.

I experience this problem as well. What finally solved it for me was to delete the preferences for Macromedia – not sure how you go about doing this in the windows world (maybe the CCleaner) in the Mac world it is simple.
*user*/library/preferences/macromedia
I deleted the entire folder. Restarted my browsers.
Bingo! Audio is back. It was affecting Firefox as well – problem solved there as well.

I had no sound on YouTube for two days…..it drove me nuts!!!! I downloaded all of the requirements….to no avail…..still no sound.
Today I LOOKED AT MY OWN SOUND ON THE YOUTUBE, AND IT WAS ALL THE WAY DOWN. I PULLED IT (the volume in youtube) UP, AND SURE ENOUGH, IT WORKED….
The sound worked all this time,,,I had not clue why the sound volume was down…..but this was the only thing that was wrong, in my case….I sympathys with those who cannot have sound…when the video is so clear…

I dont know , whether the above response works or not. But try this tooooo….
Flash No Sound WaveMapper Solution
1. Launch Registry Editor by typing regedit at Run command.
2. Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
3. On the right pane, and check for existance of “wavemapper” registry subkey, the mail culprit causing Flash no sound. If not found, create a new String value named “wavemapper”, and give the entry value “msacm32.drv”.
If wavemapper entry is already existed, ensure that its value data is “msacm32.drv”.
Also ensure and verify that the msacm32.drv driver file is existing in C:\Windows\System32 folder. If the file is missing in that location, search for other copy of msacm32.drv in the computer, or copy that file from another system.

I had the same problem, no sound on youtube and a few other sites, tried all these suggestions, no luck. After scouring the net, I found this:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm
I downloaded the standard codec package and it worked perfectly! Try it, can’t hurt, and I couldn’t believe after 4 weeks of no sound on youtube it worked GREAT!
August 23rd, 2008 03:57
I had this problem (no sound) with a new pc I was preparing, turns out I plugged the sound in the wrong sound slot in the motherboard. Sounds noobish, but the fact is the speakers worked fine with mp3s. I ended up plugging the speakers in a 7.1 slot ( I guess). So you might wanna check if you don’t have your speakers in the wrong slot. (Green obv)
August 23rd, 2008 03:20
manishi, come back to this site and look for alink that says “Show All”, click that and some really good advice (from me) will help you get your sound back
Ultimately learn how to clear your “flash cookies” (note the word “flash” in “flash cookies”) and it will very likely resolve your issues.
August 22nd, 2008 12:28
I’ve been having this problem the last few weeks. I just tried both things you suggested, going to the site and running CCleaner. Still no sound.
I have XP, but I do have a program installed that gives my whole computer the Vista skins for windows and the taskbar and everything.
Contact me via my email if you have any more suggestions, because this problem is quite aggravating. I frequent quite a few sites that use flash and I would love to have SOUND again!!!!!
August 22nd, 2008 03:10
A member of our flash team found the problem. It has to do with mute vs. volume=0. Clearing the cookies clears the state of the cookies that mantain these values. We added some code to clear the states manually and havent had a word off the problem since.

i ma having the same problem. I was not able to find the specified path. i am thinking because the solution mentioned is for vista and not for xp which i am having. please correct me if i am wrong . also if anybody knows the solution in a XP along these line please do post it.

okay here is what you do
UNINSTALL ALL FLASH PLAYERS (Control Panel>>Add Remove Progrems>> Uninstall Adobe Flash Player Active X and Plugin
go to google and search for: FLASH PLAYER 8
install that
then open Internet Explorer/Firefox: try a video, you will have sound
April 8th, 2008 14:26
I was on the brink of giving up too. Until I went to http://www.free-codecs.com and downloaded this very nice program called UltraGet Video Downloader. With this very simple program, you just copy the link of the video you want to watch, and paste it into the program, then it downloads the video from the site and you can watch it normally. Thanks to this wonderful program, I can watch YouTube and other embedded videos again, and actually hear what is going on.

wtf?i did everything and it still wont work.I downloaded ccleaner and the macromedia flash player option was not there. Can somebody PLEASE HELP ME???
March 7th, 2008 16:38
If you cant check the box on the site for flash settings it probably means your flash player folder is corrupt. To fix this go to your local disk (C:, E: whatever u use) then go to Documents and Settings, choose your user folder, then go to Application Data folder ( you will need to have view hidden files/folders on in the folder options, to change this go to Tools, Folder Options, View and make sure you check Show Hidden Files and Folders) once your in the Application Date folder go to the Macromedia folder, there you should see a Flash Player folder, try to delete it, it will probably say you cannot delete it because its corrupt. So what you will have to do is rename it to say “Flash Player Corrupt” or “Flash Player 2″ whatever u want. Now go to the Flash Player settings website and you should beable to check the boxes now (or they should already be checked).
I recommend that you delete the corrupt folder later aswell with a program like Unlocker or KillBox (just search in google for them or for deleting corrupt files)
March 7th, 2008 15:53
i cant check the box either :/
also when i run ccleaner with flash checked it doesnt remove any files

I also haven’t fixed this problem yet and i’ve done everything. I’ve done what’s listed above, both parts of it. I have redownloaded flash 9.whatever and such. I have even adjusted my registry with the wavemapper thing that other people have said to try. I’ve done everything i’ve found so far and nothing has worked. What has been happening to me is this: Video files on my computer work fine. What doesn’t work is flash videos on the net via youtube/whatever. I see the video and i do have a slight bit of volume. I have to turn my speakers to max and jam the thing next to my ear and i can barely hear it. ALL sound settings for youtube and my own speakers and the sound on my computer are maxxed, it is not just me failing to check something stupid like that. I am totally lost as to what is wrong….
October 5th, 2007 06:57
hi.. i do all the proses w/ ccl but it doesnt work
October 4th, 2007 20:47
The “allow third-party flash content” worked for me too.. However, along with getting the sound to work, at the end of my video I also got every other thumbnail view that’s in the same catagory qued up for play on my page….Unacceptable..Since my video is an introduction to another web video from another website, and I am not interested in promoting everyone else’s biz op….
Is there some way to alter the embed code from YouTube so that it does not load up the extra content?
Thanks,
September 28th, 2007 03:54
Of all the googled suggestions “Allow third-party Flash content” worked for me!
I’m delighted. Thanks.
