Youtube, Dailymotion Google Video, Flash Games and Applications No Sound and Audio in Windows

When playing video in Youtube, Dailymotion, Google Video CNet Videos and other Adobe Flash based video sharing sites (but not all video hosting sites, as not all is using Flash Video), the video will have no sound and audio. The video plays fine but there is no sound output even though the sound volume bar was set from zero to highest level. It happens also on 3rd party websites or blogs that embed videos. And the no sound problem also happens for Flash-based games or applications, both desktop based or online.

Weird is that only Flash things are affected, with system sounds such as mouse clicks, Windows startup sound, MSN (Windows Live) notification sound, and others, or audio from media players working fine while playing MP3, songs, music, videos, CD, DVD and other. The symptom happens when using both Adobe Flash 8 and Flash 9. Uninstall and reinstall Flash Player does not work unless you downgrade to Flash Player 7. For web based Flash contents, apparently the no sound problem happens on all web browsers including Internet Explorer 6 and 7 (IE6 and IE7), and Firefox, and may happen all flavor of Windows such as Windows 2000, XP and Vista.

If the system has Flash related no sound or audio problem, the cause for the error is probably missing registry key entries for several default Microsoft codecs mapping such as WaveMapper which processes and output .wav sounds in Windows, which is also the main culprit causing sound in Macromedia Flash player version 9 not working. You can check the existence and validity of this registry key first, see here for tutorial guide to verify wavemapper entry. Either Adobe Flash Player installer accidentally removes the registry values or registry may get corrupted.

To solve the problem of no sound play in Flash based videos, contents, apps, games and etc, download the FixNoFlashSound.reg registry registration files. Double click on the downloaded file, and confirm the pop up to apply and merge the values to the registry. The imported registry file basically reset and remap the sound drivers in Windows.

If you can’t download the FixNoFlashAudio.reg, you can also copy and paste above text to a text editor, and save the file with a .reg extension, and then double click it. Sound of Flash content should be working now, but you may have to reedit the Windows sound scheme for your personalization. If you have missing .acm codec problem, try to manually add back the Windows codecs.

If the Flash sound is still not working, verify that the registry pointer is correct. Then check if the msacm32.drv driver file is existing in C:\Windows\System32 folder. If the file is missing in that location, search for other copy of msacm32.drv in the computer, or copy that file from another system.

Try out also K-Lite Codec Tool no system sound fix if you get no sound from Windows and Flash.

Thank you so much. I feel relatively computer savvy and had never had this happen before. I was getting frustrated and your download worked like a charm. I uninstalled a couple of programs prior to the problem starting so I’m guessing that the uninstalls corrupted the registry somehow. Again, thank you very much!

Thank u with all my heart u saved my life from giving me shelter in a mental hospital. You’re a pro!

To Simon, Subhasis and any others like me who trawled online and tried every solution without success, I’ve come up with a fix. The wavemapper registry fix is soooooooo close!
    1. In Vista, switch off UAC (this step may not be necessary but was on the machine i was fixing)
    2. Get hold of anybody with a working Vista machine and ask them for their msacm32.drv file (in C:\Windows\System32 folder). U can gladly email me on zzadz@hotmail.com and i’ll send u mine.
    3. Copy their file into ur C:\Windows\System32 folder-if like me you already have a msacm32.drv fle that you ASSUMED to be working ok, rename the new file msacm32.1.drv
    4. Open regedit, go to LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\CURRENT VERSION\DRIVERS 32 and open the WAVEMAPPER key.
    5. Change the value to msacm32.1.drv

This works straight away – i guess the msacm32.drv file is corrupt and Windows has no way of telling you.

Please pass this solution on – i cant find it anywhere else on the net!
