Adobe Flash No Sound WaveMapper Trick
Occasionally users may encounter problem that there is no sound output from the Windows system especially when trying to playback a Flash based contents by installing the latest version of Adobe Flash 9. The symptom is obvious when viewing video clips on online video sharing sites such as YouTube, MetaCafe, Daily Motion, MySpace Video, Google Video and etc. Video can be played back, but no sound, voice, or audio is heard.
There is a general Flash no sound registry fix to solve all driver mapping problem that may exists. But if you don’t want to touch so many registry keys, try the following trick which is also a better solution – direct to the cause.
Flash No Sound WaveMapper Solution
- Launch Registry Editor by typing regedit at Run command.
- Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
- On the right pane, and check for existance of “wavemapper” registry subkey, the mail culprit causing Flash no sound. If not found, create a new String value named “wavemapper”, and give the entry value “msacm32.drv”.
If wavemapper entry is already existed, ensure that its value data is “msacm32.drv”.
Also ensure and verify that the msacm32.drv driver file is existing in C:\Windows\System32 folder. If the file is missing in that location, search for other copy of msacm32.drv in the computer, or copy that file from another system.

Hey there,
I followed the instructions and it worked. Thank you very much. I never leave comments, but I whole-heartedly thank you for the step-by-step instructions. They were very accurate and complete and it worked! I am not a tech-savvy person, so I commend you on good writing!

Thanks. After a bad virus infecetion I had no sound for all webbrowser. The advice to check the wavemapper reg key value was useful although the name – value was present in the register.
The problem was actually register permissions. Once I gave permission to allow full control of the register for the admin account – IT WORKED!

Surfed for an hour trying to find a solution to this problem – I finally found your instructions and it worked perfectly.
Drivers32 was completely missing – recreated and put in the values recommended. Worked without even restarting the computer.
Thank you for sharing the wealth! My life is better.

Same problem as everyone else – no sound in youtube, but sound works in other programs on computer. I’ve tried all the uninstalling, re-installing of firefox & adobe shockwave, etc. I have that driver in those files…. what else? It was working until yesterday !
April 17th, 2009 07:55
I have the same problem indicated here. I don’t have sound coming from my webpage (youtube or any other application in webpage both in IE and firefox) and I also noticed that there is no sound in yahoo messenger as well. I checked all the existence of the msacm32.drv. It was absent so I downloaded the file from http://www.afreedrv.com/drv/download/3052/msacm32.drv
The place in the registry is ok with wavmapper.
One thing I noticed in the control panel>sounds and audio devices>voice tab>voice playback (deaful voice) is empty. There is a dropdown menu and I can see my audio device (Realtek AC97 Audio) but when I select and hit apply and/or OK button and return to the same option, i find the option empty again. I think this is the main reason behind no sound from my webpage. Can you help me fix this problem?
Please email me in the email address provided when i commented in this page just to know if I am being helped or that my comment reaches you.
Thanks,
Amrit.

After trying many, many things it turns out I was just missing this file (the last thing you mention here) msacm32.drv from my Windows/System32 folder. Once I searched and found it elsewhere on my system and copied it into the System32 folder… voila! I now have sound from YouTube and elsewhere. My system sounds are still not working, though.
Thank you so much for this information!

RUNNING VISTA and did all the same steps as desribed: START > type RUN in search box > enter RUN program and type in > REGEDIT.EXE
in there on the left side go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then,
SOFTWARE then,
Microsoft then,
Windows NT then,
CurrentVersion then,
Drivers32
In there, create a new String value named by right clicking. Name it: Wavemapper . As value right click on the file created and name it: msacm32.drv
press enter and sound should work again for windows sound and flash (youtube, etc) without needing to restart windows.

I have been frustrated with this problem for over 6 months now. I am so glad somebody is smarter than the Adobe flash people. I searched their website many times over for a solution. I tried downloading Codecs, New drivers for my sound card, FFdshow,WMPlayer, RealPlayer, DiVX, ect…Finally broke down and purchased another sound card (bummer didnt fix it waste of money) Anything I thought might solve the issue.
